Best Freshchat Alternatives in 2026 — When the Session Meter or the Seat Ladder Stops Fitting
Quick answer: Freshchat is the messaging product inside Freshworks' customer-service stack, and it is a reasonable choice for a team that is already on Freshdesk and wants chat, WhatsApp, and a bot in the same vendor. The reason people search this page is what changed in November 2025: the bot now runs on Freddy AI Agent sessions, each paid plan gets 500 complimentary sessions once rather than every month, and every session after that costs $49 per pack of 100, roughly 49 cents per 24-hour bot conversation. Add per-agent pricing that steps from $23 to $59 to $95 a month monthly-billed, multilingual conversations gated to Pro, and Freddy AI Copilot at $29 per agent on top, and a ten-agent team with a busy bot is paying for three meters at once. The best Freshchat alternatives in 2026 are SendPulse ($12/mo Pro, bots on five messenger channels plus a shared inbox, live chat widget, and email on one flat bill), Intercom ($29/seat Essential plus $0.99 per Fin resolution, the upmarket helpdesk whose AI meter charges per outcome rather than per conversation), Tidio ($29/mo Starter, the closest like-for-like live-chat inbox with a Claude-based AI agent and 10 seats on Free, Starter, and Growth), Chatbase ($40/mo Hobby, the pure AI-agent route with the strongest multi-language accuracy we have measured), and Wati ($69/mo Growth, the Meta-verified WhatsApp specialist for teams that bought Freshchat for WhatsApp). Every alternative's score and price is carried from a published Chatbotscape review; Freshchat itself carries no score because we have not yet published its Tier 1 review.
Alternatives at a glance
Freshchat launched in September 2017 as the sixth product from Freshworks, the Chennai-founded, San Mateo-headquartered company that listed on Nasdaq in 2021 as FRSH. It has always been the conversational front door to Freshdesk: a website and in-app widget, a shared inbox that pulls in email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS, LINE, and Google Business Messages, and a bot builder that is now branded Freddy AI Agent. The parent company is healthy by any public measure (second-quarter 2026 revenue of $237.4 million, up 16 percent year on year, and its first GAAP-profitable quarter of the year), and the product is not going anywhere. This page is not a rescue; it is a fit-and-price decision, and the paragraphs below try to make it an informed one.
The reason people leave is arithmetic that changed shape. Until late 2025, Freshchat's paid tiers bundled thousands of bot sessions a month (the aggregator pricing pages that still show 2,000, 3,000, and 5,000 sessions are describing that older ladder). From 13 November 2025, new customers get 500 complimentary Freddy AI Agent sessions once, not monthly, and then buy packs of 100 for $49. A session is every interaction between one end user and the bot inside a 24-hour window, packs do not roll over, and when the balance hits zero the bot stops answering and hands everything to a live agent. At the same time the seat ladder runs $23, $59, and $95 per agent per month billed monthly (the vendor's own page shows only the annual-billed $19, $49, and $79 in USD, which is why this page quotes the monthly figures from the vendor's EUR ladder and two independent analyses), multilingual conversations and intelligent routing sit on Pro, and Freddy AI Copilot for agents is a further $29 per agent per month on Pro and Enterprise only. None of this is hidden. It is simply a model that fits some teams exactly and others not at all.
We have not yet published a Tier 1 review of Freshchat, and we do not invent scores, so Freshchat carries no editorial score here; a full Freshchat review is in our manual review queue. One verification-depth disclosure belongs up front: we read the vendor's pricing page and its sessions FAQ directly on 11 September 2026, the annual-billed USD prices and every session rule on this page come from those two vendor sources, and the monthly-billed USD prices ($23, $59, $95) are corroborated rather than vendor-printed, because the vendor page renders monthly prices only in euros to an EU visitor. Every alternative's score and price is carried from its published Chatbotscape review using monthly-billed rates per our pricing methodology.
Why you are looking for a Freshchat alternative
Four reasons dominate, and three of them are meters.
The session meter that does not refill
Freddy AI Agent sessions are the change that generates most of the traffic to this page. Growth, Pro, and Enterprise each include 500 complimentary sessions as a one-time allowance; the Free plan includes none, so any bot use starts at Growth. After the 500, sessions cost $49 per pack of 100, shared between AI agents and classic chatbots, and previewing a bot while you build it consumes them too. Unused sessions expire with the billing cycle, auto-recharge (online billing only) adds a pack when 50 remain, and at zero the bot goes silent and routes to humans (self-service widgets simply stop). A support team handling 2,000 bot sessions a month pays about $735 in session packs in the first month (the one-time 500 absorb part of it) and roughly $980 every month after that, on top of seats, and a team that chose Freshchat in 2024 for its bundled 3,000 monthly sessions is on a legacy contract that new signups cannot get. The alternatives below meter AI four different ways, and the comparison table makes each one explicit, because a team leaving over a per-session meter should not land on a per-resolution one without knowing it.
The seat ladder and the Copilot on top
Freshchat prices per agent, and the steps are steep: Growth at $23 a month monthly-billed, Pro at $59, Enterprise at $95. The features most support teams eventually want (multilingual conversations, custom dashboards, intelligent routing, multiple SLA policies) sit on Pro, so the functional price for a mid-sized team is $59 per agent, and Freddy AI Copilot, the agent-assist layer, adds $29 per agent per month and is not offered on Growth at all. Ten agents on Pro with Copilot is $880 a month before a single bot session. G2's summary of dislikes (501 reviews, 4.4 stars) lists expense for startups and AI limitations among the top themes, and an August 2026 reviewer put it plainly: pricing scales quickly as seats grow. Whether that is a problem depends on whether your seat count is the number that grows.
WhatsApp is included, but the specialist tooling is not
WhatsApp, SMS, LINE, and Google Business Messages arrive on Growth, which is more generous than the aggregator pages (still showing WhatsApp on Pro) suggest. What Freshchat does not have is the WhatsApp-native operating layer a specialist ships: Meta Business Solution Provider status, template management built around Meta's approval queue, broadcast tooling with per-conversation cost visibility, and a bot designed for the channel's conversation-window economics rather than a website widget's. Teams whose support volume is 80 percent WhatsApp tend to notice this within a quarter. Our WhatsApp Business API glossary entry explains the pieces, and Wati, below, is the platform built around them.
The pull toward Freshdesk Omni
Freshchat's own product page now leads with a demo of Freshdesk Omni, the bundled helpdesk-plus-messaging suite priced at $29, $79, and $119 per agent annual-billed, with the same Freddy session packs. The pull is deliberate and not unreasonable: if you need ticketing, a knowledge base, and chat from one vendor, Omni is that product. But a team that came for a chat widget and a bot, and finds every roadmap conversation steering toward a ticketing suite, is a team whose actual requirement might be served by a smaller, flatter tool.
And the honest reasons to stay. The Free plan covers up to 10 agents with a website and mobile widget, a shared inbox, and email, which is a real entry for a small team. Growth includes social messengers and WhatsApp at a price point most helpdesks reserve for a tier higher. The 14-day trial gives you Enterprise features with no card. Multilingual support spans more than 45 languages on Pro, and skill-based routing, audit logs, JWT authentication, and IP allow-listing on Enterprise are the kind of controls an SMB tool rarely offers. If you are already on Freshdesk, if your bot volume is light enough that the one-time 500 plus an occasional $49 pack covers it, or if your seat count is stable, Freshchat is fair value and leaving is a fit decision, not a rescue.
How the top Freshchat alternatives compare
| Platform | Cheapest paid (monthly-billed) | Score /100 | Seats included | AI agent pricing | Free plan | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freshchat | $23/agent/mo Growth; functional Pro $59/agent | not scored — no Tier 1 review yet | Per agent, every tier | 500 one-time sessions per paid plan, then $49 per 100; Copilot $29/agent/mo on Pro+ | From Growth (no BSP status stated) | Yes — up to 10 agents, widget + inbox + email, no bot sessions |
| SendPulse | $12/mo (Pro-500subs) | 86 | Seat cap not documented in our review (single-user account tested) | ChatGPT integration bundled on Pro; multi-provider AI panel; no per-session meter | Native; vendor-claimed Meta BSP (third-party-confirmed per our review) | Yes — 3 bots, 500 subscribers, live chat included |
| Intercom | $29/seat/mo Essential; functional Advanced $85/seat | 76 | Per seat, flat steps; 20 free Lite collaborator seats on Advanced | $0.99 per Fin resolution (an outcome, not a conversation) | Native channel | No — 14-day trial |
| Tidio | $29/mo Starter | 75 | 10 on Free, Starter, and Growth | 50 Lyro conversations one-off on Starter; ongoing Lyro limits from Growth $59/mo | Bundled on every tier including Free | Yes — 50 conversations, 50 Lyro one-off, 10 seats |
| Chatbase | $40/mo Hobby | 73 | 2 on Hobby (1 on Free) | Message credits per tier; advanced models from Hobby | Supported; website embed is the center of gravity | Yes — 50 message credits/mo, 1 agent |
| Wati | $69/mo Growth ($59 annual) | 68 | 3 on Growth (hard cap, no add-on); 5 on Pro with $24 add-on seats | Astra AI agents from Pro $149/mo; Co-pilot credits per tier | Core product; Meta BSP; ~20% markup on Meta conversation fees per our review | No — 7-day trial |
All alternative prices are monthly-billed rates carried from each platform's review ledger; annual-billed equivalents are lower. Freshchat's monthly-billed USD figures are corroborated from the vendor's EUR monthly ladder and two independent 2026 analyses, because the vendor's USD page shows annual-billed prices only; the session rules are quoted from the vendor's own FAQ.
The 5 best Freshchat alternatives
The list runs in editorial-score order, not likeness order. The closest like-for-like replacement for Freshchat's chat-first inbox sits at #3, and the WhatsApp specialist sits at #5.
1. SendPulse — The flat-bill rebuild: bots, inbox, widget, and email with no meter
Best for: Teams that want Freshchat's messaging shape, plus email marketing, on a single flat bill with no per-agent or per-session meter
SendPulse holds the highest editorial score on this page at 86/100 and removes both of Freshchat's meters at once. The $12 Pro tier is priced on a subscriber slider rather than per agent, and the AI layer (ChatGPT bundled on Pro, with Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek exposed in the same integrations panel) has no session pack to buy; the only number that moves is the subscriber slider (our review noted roughly $25 at 2,500 subscribers and $40 at 5,000), which tracks audience size rather than bot volume or headcount; the AI agent block is a first-class flow primitive rather than a metered add-on. The surface covers what most Freshchat customers actually use: a native website live chat widget, a shared inbox, chatbots on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, and Viber, and the thing Freshchat does not attempt, email and SMS campaigns in the same subscription. Our review found the admin interface localized in five languages with 24/7 support in all five, where Freshchat gates multilingual conversations to Pro. Two limits our review is careful about: the inbox seat cap was not documented because the review ran on a single-user account, so confirm team limits before moving a ten-agent desk, and the six-scenario testing protocol has not yet been run on SendPulse, so this page quotes no accuracy figure for it.
What it is not: a helpdesk. There is no ticketing system in Freshchat's sense, our review documents no SLA policies or skill-based routing, and the analytics dimension (70/100) trails its pricing and channel strengths. A team that lives in a ticket queue should read the Intercom entry next.
Choose SendPulse over the others when: the session meter is the reason you are leaving, you want email marketing consolidated into the same tool, or the free plan matters for a slow rollout. Skip it if: your daily reality is a staffed support queue with SLAs, which is Intercom's brief, or a widget-first support desk, which is Tidio's.

2. Intercom — The upmarket move: per-seat steps and AI billed per outcome
Best for: Support teams that want a full helpdesk with the AI billed only when it actually resolves something
If the reason you are leaving Freshchat is that the bot's meter charges for conversations regardless of whether they went anywhere, Intercom's meter is the direct answer. Fin AI Agent bills $0.99 per outcome, defined in our review as a resolution event (the customer confirms, asks for nothing further, or a workflow completes); a bot conversation that ends in a handoff costs nothing. Seats step flat (Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132), Advanced includes 20 free Lite collaborator seats, and the interface is localized in 12 languages against Freshchat's Pro-gated multilingual tier. The AI itself carries the strongest anchored retrieval-augmented range in our Tier 1 batch, 80 to 87 percent answer accuracy with 6 to 12 percent hallucination; the review is explicit that those figures are an anchored editorial assessment against our Manychat baseline with hands-on testing on a paid Advanced account still pending, so treat them as a range. Compliance (90/100) is the highest on this page and trust signals (96/100) tie SendPulse for the top mark, with SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA all stated. One naming note our review flags: the company renamed itself Fin on 12 May 2026 while keeping Intercom as the product name.
The trade-off is the bill. Our review scores pricing at 42/100 and value for money at 25/100, the lowest scored value on this page (Wati's is deferred in its review). A five-agent team on Advanced pays $425 before a single resolution, and 1,000 Fin outcomes a month adds $990; that is a different order of magnitude from Freshchat's Growth tier, and there is no free plan. Intercom is the right Freshchat alternative for a team whose ticket volume is in the high hundreds a month and whose AI deflection is measured in resolutions; below that, its economics work against you. The helpdesk chatbot ranking explains where the deflection-layer alternatives beat a full helpdesk.
Choose Intercom over the others when: you need routing, SLAs, and ticket workflows deeper than Freshchat's, and per-resolution AI pricing fits your volume. Skip it if: you are an SMB under a few hundred tickets a month.

3. Tidio — The closest like-for-like: live-chat inbox with Lyro AI on Claude and 10 seats everywhere
Best for: Teams that want Freshchat's widget-and-inbox experience with a named-model AI agent and no per-agent pricing
Ranked third by score, first by resemblance. Tidio is a Poland-based live-chat-first platform (founded 2013) whose product maps almost one-to-one onto how most teams use Freshchat: a website widget, a unified inbox pulling Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, email, and Shopify storefront chat into one agent view, assignment and notes, and an AI agent. The seat model is the clearest win over Freshchat: every tier including Free includes 10 seats, so a team paying Freshchat $590 for ten agents on Pro pays Tidio $29 on Starter or $59 on Growth for the same headcount. The AI agent is the second. Lyro runs on Anthropic's Claude (named publicly) with MCP-backed actions, and in our review's Scenario D run it produced the lowest hallucination rate in our hands-on Tier 1 runs, 6.7 percent, with a measured per-language table (87 percent grounded-answer rate in English, 80 in Mexican Spanish, 80 in Brazilian Portuguese, 87 in Polish) and a seven-language dashboard where Freshchat gates multilingual conversations to Pro. WhatsApp is bundled on every tier, including Free.
Read the Lyro line carefully, because it is Tidio's version of Freshchat's session meter. Starter's 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off allowance with no monthly refresh, not a recurring budget; ongoing Lyro limits begin at Growth ($59 a month), which is also where advanced analytics arrive. A team leaving Freshchat because the 500 complimentary sessions ran out should price Tidio at Growth, not Starter, and compare Growth's ongoing Lyro allowance to its own monthly bot volume. The other gaps: Telegram only via integration, no SLA policies or skill-based routing in Freshchat's Enterprise sense, and the compliance dimension (58/100) is the weakest on this page.
Choose Tidio over the others when: the website widget plus social DMs is your support surface, your store runs on Shopify or WordPress, and you want AI that refuses rather than guesses. Skip it if: your team needs Enterprise-grade routing and audit controls, or Telegram is a first-class channel.

4. Chatbase — The pure AI-agent route over your own documentation
Best for: Teams whose real requirement was Freddy AI Agent, not the inbox: a grounded support agent on their docs, deployed in minutes
Some teams bought Freshchat for the bot and inherited the helpdesk. If that is you, Chatbase is the direct replacement: a focused AI support agent that ingests documents and URLs, answers from a knowledge base with citations, and embeds on a website in minutes. Our review measured an eight-minute time-to-first-agent, the fastest in the Tier 1 batch, and a four-minute ingest of five PDFs, and its Scenario D result was the strongest multi-language NLU we have recorded: 89 percent intent accuracy in English, 85 in LATAM Spanish, 83 in Brazilian Portuguese, and 79 in Hindi, with 88 percent English citation accuracy and 9 percent hallucination. The metering is by message credits per tier rather than by 24-hour session, which for a bot that handles short exchanges is usually cheaper than Freshchat's model and for a bot that handles long ones is usually not; run your own conversation lengths through both before deciding. Compliance (86/100, SOC 2 Type II plus GDPR, HIPAA-eligible on Enterprise) is solid for a bootstrapped platform.
What it is not: a shared inbox for humans. Hobby includes 2 seats, team collaboration is basic, channels score 50/100 (WhatsApp is supported but the center of gravity is the website embed), the dashboard is English only, and the free plan is 50 message credits, a demo rather than a working tier. It also has no self-serve bring-your-own-model path and does not advertise MCP; the review names Botpress and Voiceflow for teams that need those.
Choose Chatbase over the others when: AI deflection from an existing knowledge base is the job and human chat is secondary. Skip it if: your agents live in the inbox all day; pair it with a human desk or choose Tidio instead. The best AI chatbot ranking places it in the wider field.

5. Wati — The WhatsApp specialist for teams that bought Freshchat for WhatsApp
Best for: Support teams whose volume is mostly WhatsApp and who want Meta BSP status, template tooling, and voice in 30-plus languages
Wati is the lowest composite score on this page and the right answer for a specific Freshchat customer: the one whose inbox is 80 percent WhatsApp. It is an official Meta Business Solution Provider, confirmed in our review through the in-product BSP template-approval flow rather than a Meta directory lookup, and the product is built around the channel's mechanics rather than a website widget's: template management aligned to Meta's approval queue, broadcasts with per-message cost visibility, a shared inbox, and an in-product language picker exposing 30-plus languages including Hindi, Tamil, Arabic, and Bahasa Indonesia, with the interface itself localized in six (English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, both Chinese scripts, and Arabic). In our Scenario D run the Astra AI agent scored 85 percent intent accuracy in English, 81 in LATAM Spanish, 79 in Brazilian Portuguese, and 76 in Hindi, and Astra Voice 2.0 delivered voice cloning from a 60-second sample with roughly 750 milliseconds median latency and live language switching mid-call. For a team whose customers are in India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, or Latin America, that is a support surface Freshchat's Growth-tier WhatsApp channel does not attempt.
The caveats decide the placement. Growth's 3 users are a hard cap with no add-on path, so a fourth agent forces Pro at $149 (5 users, then $24 per extra seat), which is a steeper cliff than Freshchat's per-agent steps. Astra AI agents are a Pro feature, not included at $69. There is no email channel, the web widget is an inbox-level surface our review found lighter on automation than the live-chat-first platforms, there is no free plan (a 7-day trial), and our review documents an approximately 20 percent markup on Meta's conversation fees, which multiplies with volume; model it with our WhatsApp pricing calculator before committing.
Choose Wati over the others when: WhatsApp is the business and you need the channel's native tooling and BSP status. Skip it if: your support runs on a website widget or email, or your team is about to grow past three agents on a $69 budget.

How the ranking was constructed
17-dimension scoring rubric (methodology v3.12.1)
Every ranked platform is scored 0–100 against the rubric below — 17 dimensions in 6 weighted clusters. Cluster weights are published; per- dimension weights inside each cluster are documented in the methodology page and the per-review POC notes sibling file. Cluster weights were rebalanced in v3.12.1 (May 2026) to bring Pricing-and-Value closer to AI/NLU parity — reflecting the SMB persona's reality where price is a primary decision driver alongside AI capability.

How to choose your Freshchat replacement
Start from the meter that pushed you here, not from feature grids.
Price Freshchat at next year's bot volume and headcount first
Before migrating, write down two numbers for twelve months out: monthly bot sessions (one end user, one 24-hour window) and agent seats. Multiply monthly sessions by 49 cents (the one-time 500 only offsets the first month), seats by $23, $59, or $95 depending on the tier your features need, and add $29 per agent if Copilot is in the plan. If that total sits comfortably inside your support budget and your seat count is stable, Freshchat's Growth tier with WhatsApp included is hard to beat, and this page's job is done. If sessions are the number that grows, or seats are, the alternatives start winning, and which one depends on which number it is.
Then match the constraint
- Bot sessions are the cost that grows → SendPulse (no session meter; AI bundled on Pro), Chatbase (message credits sized for AI-first use; compare credit burn to your conversation lengths), or Intercom (per resolution, so unresolved conversations are free)
- Seats are the cost that grows → Tidio (10 seats on Free, Starter, and Growth), SendPulse (subscriber-based pricing; confirm the inbox seat cap with the vendor first, because our review did not test it), or Intercom (flat per-seat steps with 20 free Lite seats on Advanced)
- Multilingual conversations gated to Pro → Tidio (seven-language dashboard, measured four-language run), SendPulse (five-language admin and 24/7 support at $12), or Chatbase (measured four-language accuracy at $40, English-only dashboard); the best multilingual chatbot ranking goes deeper
- WhatsApp is most of your volume → Wati, and read the fee-markup note before you sign
- You need ticketing, SLAs, and routing deeper than Freshchat's → Intercom; none of the SMB options here matches a real helpdesk, and Freshdesk Omni itself is the honest in-family answer
- You want the bot and not the inbox → Chatbase
- Outgrew the Free plan's ten agents but not ready for per-agent pricing → Tidio's Free tier (10 seats, 50 conversations) or SendPulse's free plan
Do not disconnect the widget before the new one is live
Migrating a website chat tool is simpler than migrating a WhatsApp number, but the sequencing rule is the same: install the new widget alongside the old one, route new conversations to it, export Freshchat's contact and conversation history, rebuild automations and the bot's knowledge base on the destination (they never transfer one-to-one), reconnect WhatsApp and the social channels to the new platform before disconnecting them from Freshchat, and remove the Freshchat snippet last. Rebuild your human handoff and fallback copy before launch day, because that is the failure line where migrations bleed customers, and remember that a Freshchat bot at zero sessions is already handing everything to humans, so your agents may be carrying more than you think. Our 14-day migration playbook covers the cutover order, and the customer service automation guide covers what to automate first on the new platform.

- Pricing data
- Freshchat pricing on this page was read directly on freshworks.com/live-chat-software/pricing on 11 September 2026 (annual-billed USD: Growth $19, Pro $49, Enterprise $79 per agent per month; Freddy AI Agent $49 per 100 sessions; Freddy AI Copilot $29 per agent per month on Pro and Enterprise; add-ons and 14-day Enterprise-level trial; the vendor page prints the Enterprise Copilot add-on as '$29/agent/annually', which we read as the same $29 per agent per month shown on Pro) and on the vendor's Freddy AI Agent sessions FAQ (modified 12 August 2026). Monthly-billed USD figures ($23, $59, $95) are not printed on the vendor's USD page; they are corroborated by the vendor's EUR monthly ladder (€21, €59, €95) rendered to an EU visitor the same day and by two independent analyses dated January and August 2026, and are labeled as corroborated wherever they appear. G2 and Capterra pricing pages still show the pre-November-2025 ladder and were not used for prices. All alternative pricing is carried from each platform's Tier 1 review ledger using monthly-billed rates per Chatbotscape methodology. Re-verify before purchase; SaaS pricing changes frequently.
