Winner by scenario

  • AI agent trained on your own documents
    Chatbase →
Built for it: PDFs, URLs, Notion and Q&A pairs into an agent in 8 minutes, with the stronger reported citation figure (88% against 82%) on a larger test set. Both are protocol figures from different tests.
  • Live chat with a human inbox and ticketing
    Tidio →
The product's 13-year origin: unassigned and my-open queues, macros, a customer sidebar, tickets and a 4.5/5 hand-over in the review, against a 4/5 hand-off into a separate helpdesk on the Chatbase side.
  • Shopify and ecommerce storefront chat
    Tidio →
A native Shopify connector and an add-to-cart trigger as a first-class flow primitive. Chatbase lists Shopify from Hobby, but its review calls the ecommerce gap beyond Shopify real.
  • Price of a first paid plan
    Tidio →
$29 against $40, with WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger on every Tidio plan including Free. The units differ (conversations against AI credits), and Tidio AI beyond 50 one-off conversations costs extra, so the gap closes fast once the bot is busy.
  • Compliance and regulated data
    Chatbase →
SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA-eligible deployment on Enterprise. Tidio shows a SOC 2 badge, but HIPAA is vendor-claimed with no business associate agreement path in the review.
  • Phone and voice agents
    Chatbase →
Phone via Twilio or your own SIP trunk from Standard. Tidio documents no voice on its own Lyro page; voice sits on the separate standalone Lyro product.
Quick answer~1 min

Chatbase and Tidio both put an AI answerer on your website, but they come from opposite directions. Chatbase is a knowledge-base AI agent: upload documents and URLs, set a prompt, deploy to the site and, if you want, to WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Slack. It starts at $40 a month and meters AI replies as message credits. Tidio is a live-chat platform with an AI agent added on top: a human inbox, tickets, flows and a Shopify connector first, then Lyro, its AI agent on Claude, from $29 a month for the platform plus a separate Lyro quota from $39 a month once the 50 one-off AI conversations run out. Pick Chatbase if the job is AI answers from your own content and a hand-off to the helpdesk you already run; pick Tidio if the job is a shared human inbox for an online store with an AI assistant helping. The overall scores are 73 against 75 (72.61 against 75.34 on the canonical weights): close enough that the channels and integrations rows decide it, not answer quality.

Editorial TL;DR — what the 2.7-point gap is made of~2 min

The headline scores are 73 for Chatbase and 75 for Tidio, and the reviews' own weighted sums are 72.61 and 75.34, a gap of 2.73 on the canonical weights. That is the smallest gap in our comparison set, and it hides two opposite stories. Tidio leads on channels (78 against 50, worth 2.80 points), integrations (80 against 56, 2.16), trust signals (90 against 60, 1.50) and support and documentation (78 against 50, 1.12). Chatbase leads on compliance (86 against 58, 1.40), performance (85 against 62, 1.38), developer experience (80 against 55, 1.25), practical UX (100 against 84, 0.64) and bot-building (90 against 80, 0.50). On the AI/NLU row, worth 15% and the reason most buyers evaluate either tool, the scores are two points apart (80 and 82), worth 0.30 of the gap.

Because the gap is the net of big offsetting rows, it is fragile. Drop the channels row and Chatbase moves ahead, 75.12 against 75.04. Drop channels and integrations, and Chatbase leads by 2.75. Drop trust signals and support, and the two tie within 0.12. A buyer who only needs a website surface should treat the two as level on the product and look at price and the missing features instead of the headline.

The evidence is also uneven. Chatbase's scenario figures come from Hobby and Standard accounts and were not re-run in October. Tidio's come from a 7-day trial in which Lyro was tested against a single indexed page, so its answer rate is a first-week ceiling, not a steady-state figure, and the Tidio review reports its own English accuracy two ways (73% and 87%). Read the knowledge-base numbers as directional.

Quick verdict by use-case

Each row is judged from the two reviews' dimension scores and pricing pages, weighted by what the buyer in that row cares about.

An AI support agent that answers from our docs and help pages on the website

Chatbase's anchor surface: PDFs, crawled URLs, text snippets, Notion and Q&A pairs, with per-chunk source attribution and an 8-minute first agent in the review. Tidio's Lyro scrapes your existing support content automatically, which is easier if you already have a help center, but the Tidio review could not confirm manual document upload or the context size. See customer service chatbots and best chatbots for customer support.

Live chat where humans do most of the talking and AI assists

Tidio is a live-chat product first: a unified inbox with unassigned and my-open queues, macros, internal notes, a customer-profile sidebar and ticketing. The review rates the Flow-to-human hand-over 4.5/5. Chatbase documents ticketing and helpdesk hand-off but not a live-chat inbox of this kind. See live chat and best live chat software.

Tidio →
Medium confidence

A Shopify or WordPress store that wants chat and AI in an afternoon

One-click Shopify and WordPress installs, a native add-to-cart trigger and order-status surfacing. Chatbase has a WordPress plugin on every plan and Shopify from Hobby, but its review calls ecommerce depth beyond Shopify thin. See best website chatbots.
Verdict
Tie — depends on how busy the bot is
Medium confidence

Small business with a budget of $50 a month or less

Tidio Starter is $29 and covers 100 conversations with 50 one-off AI conversations; sustained AI adds $39, so $68. Chatbase Hobby is $40 for 700 credits with AI included. A quiet shop with mostly human replies is cheaper on Tidio; a bot-led site is cheaper on Chatbase. See best chatbots for small business.

Hand-off to a helpdesk you already pay for (Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Help Scout)

Native connectors plus Smart Agent Routing, and a Zendesk hand-off the review rates 4/5 with the escalation reason passed along. Tidio has its own helpdesk, so it is the better pick when you do not already have one. See human handoff and the handoff design guide.
Better fit

Medium confidence

WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger from day one at no extra plan gate

Tidio lists WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and email on every plan including Free; Chatbase includes them from Hobby. Neither review measured WhatsApp template approval, and the Tidio review could not confirm whether it is a Meta Business Solution Provider, so confirm before building template-heavy flows. See the WhatsApp Business API entry.

Chatbase — Enterprise only
Medium confidence

Healthcare or other regulated data

HIPAA-eligible deployment exists on Chatbase Enterprise only. Tidio's HIPAA claim is vendor-stated with no business associate agreement path in the review. Neither should be relied on without a signed document. See the business associate agreement entry.
Verdict
Tie — neither offers your own key
Low confidence

Connecting to AI-agent tooling (MCP, your own LLM key)

Chatbase launched a hosted MCP server on 23 September 2026 that lets MCP clients manage your workspace. Tidio advertises MCP for Lyro Smart Actions, and its separate standalone Lyro product adds a model picker and an Enterprise route through your own model contract. Neither platform lets you plug your own key into its main plans. See Model Context Protocol and BYOLLM.

A team that is not English-speaking

Seven admin languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish) against English only on Chatbase, and a Polish test result of 87%. Chatbase's agent reports 83% intent in Brazilian Portuguese, so the gap is the interface, not the model.

Side-by-side at a glance

Both platforms were last re-checked against their vendor pages on 7 October 2026 by the source reviews. This page did not re-read the vendor pages live. Pricing follows our monthly-billed rule; annual equivalents are shown where they exist.

Reading note. The two Value for Money lines are measured against different category floors ($35 for Chatbase, $12 for Tidio), so 0.639 against 0.31 at the cheapest tier does not say Chatbase is the better value. The functional-tier ratios are built differently and should not be set against each other. Compare the dollar prices in the section below, not the ratios.

Pricing head-to-head

Prices are taken from the source reviews' 7 October 2026 re-checks. Chatbase's annual figures ($32, $120, $400) sit beside struck-through monthly ones; Tidio's page defaults to annual-billed-monthly rates, so the true monthly-billed figures are the ones below.

The units are not the same. Chatbase bills for what the AI does: one credit for an ordinary reply on the base model and up to five on the largest ones, so identical traffic can cost five times as much on a bigger model. Tidio bills for conversations, human or AI, and then bills AI conversations a second time through the Lyro quota. A shop where people talk to humans most of the time pays Tidio's platform price; a site where the bot does most of the talking pays Chatbase's credits instead. The scenarios below state their assumptions for exactly this reason.

Four standardized scenarios (monthly cost, USD list, before tax)

Tiny shop: 100 conversations a month, mostly answered by people, AI used on at most 50 of them

Chatbase
Hobby $40 includes 700 credits. 50 AI conversations at about three replies each is 150 credits on the base model, so the plan fits with room to spare. Effective: $40/mo ($32 annual). Human replies go through ticketing or a helpdesk rather than a live-chat inbox.
TidioWinner
Starter $29 includes 100 conversations and 10 seats. The 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off allowance, not monthly. Effective: $29/mo in month one. From month two, if the AI keeps answering 50 conversations, add the Lyro quota at $39, which makes $68/mo.

Tidio Starter at $29 covers the whole month because the 50 Lyro conversations are free. Chatbase Hobby at $40 also fits, so the gap is $11, but it only holds while the AI stays inside the one-off 50.

Growing store: 250 conversations a month, 50 handled by the AI, 3 agents

ChatbaseWinner
50 AI conversations at about three replies each is 150 credits, well inside Hobby's 700. Effective: $40/mo. Hobby has 2 seats; a third agent would need Standard at $150 or a helpdesk subscription, which this price does not include.
Tidio
Growth $59 includes 250 conversations and 10 seats. The Lyro quota for 50 conversations a month is $39. Effective: $98/mo ($49.17 plus $32.50, or $81.67, on annual billing).

With sustained AI use the order flips: Chatbase Hobby at $40 against Tidio Growth plus the Lyro quota at $98. The $58 gap buys Tidio a full shared inbox, macros and Shopify actions that Chatbase does not offer in the same form.

Support desk at volume: 2,000 conversations a month, 1,000 of them handled by the AI at about three replies each (3,000 credits)

Chatbase
3,000 credits fit inside Standard's 4,000. Effective: $150/mo for the AI, API and helpdesk connectors. Human agents then live in the helpdesk you connect, and its price is not included.
Tidio
The vendor calculator prices 2,000 billable conversations at $349 a month, monthly-billed. The 1,000-conversation Lyro quota is on top of that, and its price is not recorded in the review. Effective: $349/mo plus the Lyro quota.

Chatbase Standard at $150 covers the AI side. Tidio Growth at $349 covers 2,000 conversations in a shared inbox, and the Lyro quota for 1,000 is on top. Both numbers cover different things, and neither review prices the rest of a combined stack.

Large AI-led deployment with a performance guarantee

Chatbase
Pro at $500 includes 15,000 credits and advanced analytics, with Enterprise custom beyond that. No resolution-rate guarantee is documented. Effective: $500/mo and up.
TidioWinner
Premium is custom-quoted from 3,000 Lyro conversations with pay-per-resolution billing and the 50% guarantee. Effective: contact sales. Read the guarantee terms before relying on it.

Tidio Premium offers a refund if Lyro resolves fewer than 50% of assigned conversations. Chatbase documents no outcome guarantee. The vendor's 67% resolution claim was not validated by the Tidio review.

17-dimension scoring rubric (methodology v3.12.1)

Every ranked platform is scored 0–100 against the rubric below — 17 dimensions in 6 weighted clusters. Cluster weights are published; per- dimension weights inside each cluster are documented in the methodology page and the per-review POC notes sibling file. Cluster weights were rebalanced in v3.12.1 (May 2026) to bring Pricing-and-Value closer to AI/NLU parity — reflecting the SMB persona's reality where price is a primary decision driver alongside AI capability.

Why cluster weights, not per-dimension percentages: Cluster-level resolution is the right granularity for SMB buyers — tells you what the score means without inviting vendors to game individual dimension weights. Same practice used by G2 and Forrester.

Scoring isolation: Every Tier 1 review's editorial score is locked before any commercial relationship is evaluated. Affiliate availability never affects scoring. Documented at /methodology#editorial-policy.

Compared to industry frameworks: Same family as Forrester Wave's 25–30 weighted criteria and G2 Grid's Market-Presence/Satisfaction axes. Scoped to SMB chatbot specialists at SMB price points (Gartner Magic Quadrant covers enterprise-tier CX broadly).

Feature parity matrix — 17 dimensions

The 17-dimension rubric applied side by side, with the weights the reviews publish. Δ = Chatbase − Tidio (positive means Chatbase leads) and the last column is the Δ multiplied by the weight, so you can see how many points of the gap each row carries.

Weighted sums on the canonical weights: Chatbase 72.61, Tidio 75.34, a gap of 2.73 against the headline 73 against 75. Both headline figures sit within the plus-or-minus 2 tolerance of their recomputed sums.

Renormalized readings (weights rescaled over the dimensions kept):

ReadingChatbaseTidioGap (Tidio minus Chatbase)
All 17 dimensions72.6175.342.73

Without channels and integrations (a buyer who wants the agent alone)77.2574.49-2.75
Without compliance, performance and developer experience (a buyer with no technical or regulatory requirements)70.4978.548.05

Tidio leads on the full set and on most readings, but the lead is thin and disappears when the question is narrowed to a single surface. Chatbase takes the lead as soon as the rows describing where a bot can live are removed. A reading that also drops AI/NLU is not run here: answer quality is the reason most buyers evaluate either tool, and on that row the scores are within two points.

The three rows that decide most pairings:

  1. Channels and integrations (-28 and -24). If you sell through a Shopify store or want WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger in one inbox, this is the case for Tidio. If the bot lives on your website, the rows are irrelevant to you.
  2. Compliance, performance and developer experience (+28, +23, +25). The rows where Chatbase leads. They matter if you need SOC 2 paperwork, an API-first workflow, HIPAA at Enterprise, or a platform that users do not report as slow at peak hours.
  3. AI/NLU (-2 on the score). The published scores nearly tie, so do not choose on the AI row alone. Run your own questions.

Six-scenario delta — read the evidence line first

The six-scenario protocol was reported by both reviews, and the two reports are not equally clean. Chatbase's figures come from Hobby and Standard accounts over nine hours on 24-26 May 2026, and were not re-run when the review was refreshed on 7 October. Tidio's figures come from a 7-day business trial on 28-29 May 2026 in which Lyro was tested against a single indexed page and never went live on paying conversations.

ScenarioChatbase (as reported)Tidio (as reported)What it can and cannot tell you
A — First bot on the website8 min on the website widget from five uploaded PDFs; 89% intent accuracy on a 20-query English set14 min with Lyro active (9 min for a five-step Quick-Replies Flow alone); widget install must come before LyroDifferent end points: a trained document agent against a widget plus an AI that needs a widget first. Chatbase is faster to a working AI answerer.
B — Lead capture9 min into Calendly; 100% fidelity on 50 test submissions11 min for a five-question Flow; 100% fidelity on 20 submissionsBoth clean; different destinations and sample sizes. Not a differentiator.
C — Action or channel set-up17 min for a Stripe subscription lookup as an AI Action; friction 4/5Messenger OAuth in under 90 seconds; WhatsApp page lightweight, BSP template approval not measured; friction 3.5/5Two different jobs. See the WhatsApp Business API entry. Neither review measured WhatsApp template approval.
D — Knowledge-base answers88% citation and 9% hallucination in English; intent 89/85/83/79% EN/ES/PT-BR/HI73% answered (11 of 15), 6.7% hallucination, 82% citation on a single page; English 87% on the cross-language table; ES and PT 80%, PL 87%The largest apparent difference, from non-identical tests (20 queries on a Standard account with advanced models against 15 questions on one indexed page). Tidio's review does not reconcile its own 73% and 87%.
E — Human handover4/5 friction via Zendesk; full history and escalation reason passed; Smart Agent Routing clean4.5/5; the conversation lands in Unassigned with full Flow history and one-click assignmentDifferent shapes: Chatbase hands off to your helpdesk, Tidio to its own inbox.
F — Analytics3.5/5; deflection, escalation, CSAT, citation tracking; cohorts and funnels gated to ProDashboards locked behind a paid tier, mostly empty in the trial; no custom funnel builderDifferent jobs: Chatbase measures the support agent, Tidio measures inbox and Lyro activity.
What the scenarios do and do not show~1 min

The six rows agree with the dimension scores on speed and on hand-over, and disagree on AI. The scores put Chatbase two points below Tidio on AI/NLU, while scenario D puts Chatbase's reported accuracy and citation ahead. The reconciliation is in the test design: Chatbase's figures use a Standard account and advanced models, which cost more credits per reply, and Tidio's use a single page and a trial that never exercised Lyro on live conversations. Neither is a like-for-like test. Treat scenario D as a reason to run your own 20 questions on both free tiers, not as a verdict.

Who should pick which — side-by-side strengths and weaknesses

Tick three or more boxes on one side and that is your platform. If one "when not" entry on your preferred side is a hard gap for your business, switch.

Strengths

  • An agent trained on your documents in minutes
PDFs, crawled URLs, text snippets, Notion pages and Q&A pairs, with incremental re-training; 8 minutes from signup to a working FAQ agent in the review, and a Free tier with 50 credits to try it on real content.
  • Stronger reported knowledge-base figures
88% citation and 9% hallucination in English, with per-chunk source attribution, against 82% and 6.7% on Tidio's single-page test. Protocol figures, not a measured gap.
  • A support stack that is native
Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom, HubSpot, Freshdesk, Help Scout, Gorgias, Stripe and Shopify, plus Smart Agent Routing and a hand-off the review rates 4/5.
  • Compliance and platform maturity
SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, an explicit no-training policy, HIPAA-eligible deployment at Enterprise, and an API plus MCP server for builders.
  • Voice and phone from Standard
Phone through Twilio or your own SIP trunk, with 10 concurrent calls on Standard.

Weaknesses

  • Narrow channel set and no live-chat inbox of its own
No Telegram, SMS or TikTok, WhatsApp that the review calls shallower than a BSP, and human replies through ticketing or a connected helpdesk. Channels score 50.
  • Billing and support complaints
TrustPilot 3.9 from 67 reviews, with unauthorized charges after cancellation and slow refunds as the dominant pattern, and a Capterra Customer Service sub-rating of 3.8.
  • Hallucination is still reported
Capterra reviewers report confident but fabricated answers despite the 9% measured rate; guardrails are on you.
  • English-only admin, no bring-your-own-key
One UI language, vendor-managed models only, and an MCP server that manages the workspace without a client for calling other servers.
  • Credit and action ceilings
Model-dependent credit use, one agent per plan, five actions on Hobby, and auto-recharge with no documented hard cap.

Strengths

  • A live-chat product with AI added
A shared human inbox, tickets, macros, keyboard shortcuts and a customer sidebar, with a hand-over the review rates 4.5/5. Strongest area in the review.
  • Shopify and WordPress depth
One-click installs, a native Shopify add-to-cart trigger and order-status surfacing; Shopify store rating displayed on the pricing page.
  • The largest review footprint in our chatbot-builder set
Capterra 4.7 from 590 (Ease of Use 4.7, Customer Service 4.6), G2 4.6 from 1,962, with sentiment on Capterra 568 positive, 15 neutral and 7 negative.
  • Lower entry price and a usable Free tier
$29 to start, 50 conversations free, 10 seats on every plan, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger on every plan, and a 7-day paid trial with no card.
  • Claude-based Lyro with MCP and a resolution guarantee
Lyro runs on Claude, advertises MCP for Smart Actions, and Premium carries a refund if the 50% resolution rate is missed. The 67% vendor claim was not validated.
  • Seven admin languages
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Polish.

Weaknesses

  • AI is a second bill
The 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off allowance. After that the quota starts at $39 a month for 50 conversations, and a busy bot makes the real price far above $29.
  • No Telegram, SMS or TikTok, and WhatsApp BSP status not shown
Telegram only via third parties. Template approval timing was not measured and the vendor does not badge a Meta Business Solution Provider status.
  • No bring-your-own-key on Tidio plans
Lyro runs on a Tidio-managed Claude stack. Model choice and your own contract exist only on the separate standalone Lyro product.
  • Feature gating and learning curve
Advanced analytics, macros, auto-assignment, departments and OpenAPI need Growth or Plus; complex flows take investment.
  • Performance and billing signals
Users report peak-hour delivery delays and mobile notification gaps; TrustPilot is 3.6 from 226, with pricing-change complaints.

How to actually decide — three questions, in order

  1. Who answers most of your customers? If an AI answering from your documents handles most of the volume, choose Chatbase. If your own people answer most chats and you want AI to help, choose Tidio. This one question settles most pairings.
  2. Do you have a helpdesk already? If you run Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk or Help Scout, Chatbase plugs into it. If you do not, Tidio's inbox and ticketing replace the need for one. See human handoff.
  3. What will you pay for: AI replies or conversations? A bot-led site favors the credit meter. A human-led shop favors the conversation meter, until the AI becomes busy. Run your own numbers with the chatbot ROI quick math and cost-per-conversation frames.

If you answer "AI-led, existing helpdesk, documents", the page ends here: Chatbase. If you answer "human-led, no helpdesk, online store", it ends in the other place: Tidio.

Using Chatbase and Tidio together

There is little reason to run both on one website, because both want the same chat bubble. A realistic split is by surface: Tidio on a Shopify storefront for the shared inbox, and Chatbase as the document-trained agent behind a help page or a Zendesk-backed support site. Neither review documents a native connector between the two, so a combined setup would depend on Zapier or the API, and the two knowledge bases would have to be kept in step by hand.

Alternatives if neither fits

User feedback patterns

Cross-aggregator scan from the two reviews (Chatbase aggregators re-checked 7 October 2026 except G2, 31 May; Tidio G2 and TrustPilot re-checked 7 October 2026, Capterra 26 May), paraphrased per hygiene Rule 7.

Pattern reconciliation — what the signals mean~2 min

Chatbase. Positive themes are quick setup, easy knowledge-base training, cost relative to alternatives and native integrations; Capterra sub-ratings are Ease of Use 4.6, Features 3.9, Value for Money 4.3 and Customer Service 3.8. Negatives are hallucination, billing and cancellation friction on TrustPilot, and tier limits on storage and actions.

Tidio. Positive themes are an intuitive interface needing no code, a single inbox across channels, Lyro reducing repetitive questions and one-click Shopify and WordPress installs; Capterra sub-ratings are Ease of Use 4.7, Features 4.6, Customer Service 4.6 and Value for Money 4.5. Negatives are advanced features locked to higher tiers, the Free-plan conversation limit, a learning curve on complex flows, peak-hour delivery delays and mobile notification gaps, and some complaints about pricing changes.

Reconciliation. Tidio's pool is roughly 17 times Chatbase's and more consistent across sites, with a gap between Capterra (4.7) and TrustPilot (3.6) that is smaller than Chatbase's spread between G2 (4.8 from 19) and Capterra (4.3 from 73). Chatbase's G2 average rests on only 19 reviews, so it should not be set against Tidio's 1,962. Both vendors show the usual pattern of satisfied product reviewers and unhappy billing reviewers. Tidio's older reviews pre-date the Claude and MCP rollout, so they may understate current Lyro capability.

Source disclosure. G2 (g2.com), Capterra (capterra.com) and TrustPilot (trustpilot.com), as recorded in the two reviews; quoted themes are paraphrased and no outlier is selectively cited.

FAQ

Which is better for my business, Chatbase or Tidio?

It depends on who answers your customers. Overall Tidio scores slightly higher (75 against 73, or 75.34 against 72.61 on the recomputed weights), but the lead comes from the channels and integrations rows, and without channels Chatbase edges ahead (75.12 against 75.04). For an AI agent answering from your own documents, Chatbase is the better fit. For a live-chat inbox on an online store with an AI helper, Tidio is. See best chatbots for small business.

Is Chatbase better than Tidio for customer support?

For AI-led support from a document library with a helpdesk behind it, yes: a document-trained agent, a site widget, source citations, helpdesk connectors and a 4/5 hand-off. For human-led support with an inbox, ticketing and macros, Tidio is the stronger product, with a 4.5/5 hand-over. See best chatbots for customer support.

Is Tidio better than Chatbase for live chat and ecommerce?

Yes for live chat and Shopify. Tidio started as a live-chat widget, ships a shared inbox with ticketing and macros, installs on Shopify and WordPress in one click, and has a native add-to-cart trigger. Chatbase lists Shopify from Hobby but its review calls ecommerce depth beyond Shopify thin. See live chat.

Is Chatbase or Tidio better at training AI on my own documents?

Chatbase, on the reports so far. It accepts PDFs, URLs with crawl depth, text, Notion pages and Q&A pairs, retrains incrementally and attributes sources per chunk (88% citation in English). Tidio's Lyro scrapes your existing support content automatically, which is easier if you already have a help center, but manual upload and context size are undocumented. Both are protocol figures, so test your own questions. See build a RAG chatbot and AI hallucination.

Which is cheaper, Chatbase or Tidio?

Tidio at the entry: $29 against $40. With sustained AI the order flips: Tidio Starter plus the Lyro quota is $68, and Growth plus the quota is $98, against $40 for Chatbase Hobby. At 2,000 conversations a month, Tidio Growth is about $349 before the Lyro quota and Chatbase Standard is $150 for 3,000 credits. The meters differ, so the answer changes with traffic.

What does it cost a small business in total?

For a tiny shop with 100 conversations and light AI, $29 on Tidio Starter or $40 on Chatbase Hobby. For 250 conversations with 50 AI-handled, $98 on Tidio or $40 on Chatbase. These use the published rates and stated assumptions, before tax and before any helpdesk you add to Chatbase.

Should a small business use Chatbase or Tidio for lead capture and customer support in 2026?

Both capture leads on the site: Chatbase syncs to Calendly, HubSpot and Salesforce, and Tidio builds lead forms in its Flows editor and syncs to Klaviyo, Mailchimp and HubSpot. Choose on the support model: Chatbase for an AI-led desk, Tidio for a human-led inbox. See the lead generation chatbot entry and the lead qualification playbook.

Do Chatbase and Tidio have MCP and bring-your-own-LLM?

Neither fully. Chatbase launched a hosted MCP server on 23 September 2026 for managing the workspace and offers no bring-your-own-key. Tidio advertises MCP for Lyro Smart Actions and runs Lyro on a Tidio-managed Claude stack, with model choice and your own contract only on the separate standalone Lyro product. See Model Context Protocol and BYOLLM.

Should I switch from Tidio to Chatbase, or the other way round?

Tidio to Chatbase gains a document-trained agent, helpdesk connectors, SOC 2 and HIPAA-eligible Enterprise, and loses the shared inbox, the Shopify depth and the seven admin languages. Chatbase to Tidio gains the reverse. Rebuild knowledge and flows rather than expect an import, and run both free tiers for a week; the migration playbook lists the steps.

Does Chatbotscape earn commissions on Chatbase and Tidio sign-ups? (Editorial transparency)

Yes for both, per our standard affiliate disclosure. Affiliate revenue does not influence editorial scoring: scores are locked to the published rubric before any commercial relationship is evaluated, and the headline gap was set in the two reviews, not for this page.
