Best Gorgias Alternatives in 2026 — When an AI-Resolved Ticket Is Billed Twice
Quick answer: Gorgias bills by ticket, not by agent: $60 a month for 300 billable tickets on Basic, $0.40 for each ticket over. For accounts created since 28 May 2025, its help center says a ticket that AI Agent resolves on its own is charged both a ticket fee and an automation fee (about $0.90 on most plans), so automation adds to the ticket bill instead of replacing it. For a small Shopify store, the best Gorgias alternatives in 2026 are Tidio ($29/mo Starter, native Shopify chat with order status, ten seats), SendPulse ($12/mo Pro, chatbots on every messaging channel plus a website widget and shared inbox, with no ticket or AI meter), Intercom ($29/seat plus $0.99 per Fin resolution, the like-for-like helpdesk), BotPenguin ($29/mo Little, Shopify and WooCommerce integrations with a free tier to pilot on), and Manychat ($17/mo Essential, for stores whose support really happens in Instagram DMs). Gorgias carries no editorial score here because we have not published its Tier 1 review.
Alternatives at a glance
Gorgias is not a bad choice, and for many Shopify brands it is the right one. It was built for ecommerce support from the start (founded in 2015 and based in San Francisco, it reported more than 15,000 brands in 2024), it pulls order data into the ticket, and it prices by ticket rather than by seat: the vendor's plan guide lists three seats on Starter and unlimited agents on Pro and Advanced (its Basic entry says three seats in the text and 500 in its own table). Brands leave for narrower reasons: the ticket meter punishes seasonal spikes, the AI fee structure changed in 2025, and the cheapest plan is too small to run a store on.
We have not published a Tier 1 review of Gorgias, so it carries no editorial score and this page makes no quality comparison between its helpdesk and the five platforms we have tested; a full Gorgias review is on our hands-on queue. What this page is built on instead is Gorgias's own billing documentation, read on 26 September 2026. One limit on that: the live pricing table on gorgias.com is rendered by script and our fetch tools did not capture its figures, so plan prices come from the vendor's own pricing guide on its blog (updated May 2026), and every billing rule comes from its help center. Where those two vendor sources disagree, we say so and use the help center. Alternative scores and prices come from each platform's published review ledger at monthly-billed rates, per our pricing methodology. The people behind that work are on our editorial team page.
One scope note. If your store runs Gorgias for deep order actions across Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento or WooCommerce with a large support team, none of these five replaces all of it. This page is for the small store paying for Basic or Pro and wondering whether a lighter tool would do. If you are choosing from scratch rather than replacing Gorgias, start with our best Shopify chatbot ranking.
Why you are looking for a Gorgias alternative
Four reasons come up most, and each traces to a line in Gorgias's own billing documentation rather than to the product.
An AI-resolved ticket is billed twice
Gorgias's help center is explicit about current pricing: a helpdesk ticket fee applies to any ticket with at least one message sent from your helpdesk, "whether the message is sent by a human agent, AI Agent or an automatic message from a Rule." If you also subscribe to AI Agent, an automation fee applies on top when AI Agent resolves a ticket without handing it to a human. The help center's own example: AI Agent answers and does not hand over, you pay both; AI Agent answers and a human takes over, you pay only the ticket fee.
The vendor's AI Agent pricing guide puts the automation fee at $0.90 per resolved interaction on most plans and $1.00 on Starter. So on a Basic plan, 100 tickets a month that AI Agent closes use up 100 of your 300 tickets and need an AI Agent plan sized for about 100 automated interactions, roughly $90 at the $0.90 rate. AI Agent plans are bought as monthly bundles (the guide lists 90 to 2,500+ interactions), you pay for the bundle whether or not the AI uses it, and going over costs $1.00 to $2.00 per interaction on Support-only monthly plans. The help center adds that Flows, Order Management and Article Recommendations can also trigger an automation fee when they resolve an inquiry. Accounts created before 28 May 2025 that have not upgraded their AI Agent plan stay on legacy pricing, where each ticket is charged one fee or the other, never both.
There is a trap in the documentation itself. The vendor's plan guide on its blog says conversations fully resolved by AI Agent "don't count as billable tickets." For accounts on current pricing, the help center says the opposite, and the help center is the billing authority. If you are budgeting from a blog post or a sales deck, check which model your account is on.
The ticket meter moves with your season
Pricing by ticket is fair when volume is steady. Stores are rarely steady. Basic includes 300 tickets and each extra one costs $0.40; the blog puts Pro's overage at $0.25. A Black Friday week that doubles support volume doubles the overage line, and you pay it whether a human or a Rule sent the reply. The help center also explains how a returning customer can become a new ticket: an email reply more than ten days after the last message, or a chat, SMS, Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp message more than three days later, opens a fresh ticket that bills again once you answer it. Merging a billable email ticket with a billable voice ticket still bills as one helpdesk ticket plus one voice ticket.
Starter is a trial-sized plan
Starter is $10 a month for 50 billable tickets, three seats and, per the plan guide, email only, which the vendor itself describes as fitting new stores or very low volume. Basic at $60 is where most small stores land, and the jump to Pro is $360. There is no plan between 300 and 2,000 tickets, so a store that outgrows Basic in December either pays overage or commits to a sixfold price increase.
Voice and SMS are separate meters
The help center lists email, chat, contact forms, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp as helpdesk channels, but the plan guide ties them to tiers: it describes Starter as email only, Basic adds live chat, Pro adds every other channel except Voice and SMS, and only its Enterprise description includes Voice and SMS. For a small store that sells through Instagram, that puts the social inbox at $360 a month. Otherwise Voice and SMS are add-ons, each billed per voice or SMS ticket at a rate that depends on your tier; the plan guide says Voice starts at $70 a month plus usage. A ticket that includes an email, a call and an SMS counts as three billable events, one on each meter.
And the reasons to stay. From Pro upward Gorgias does not charge per agent, so a store with many part-time agents pays less than it would on a seat-priced helpdesk. It is purpose-built for ecommerce, with order data inside the ticket. The plan guide lists a seven-day free trial and says annual billing saves up to 17% on paid plans above Starter. And if your account predates 28 May 2025 and you have not upgraded your AI Agent plan, the double charge above does not apply to you. We have not tested Gorgias hands-on, so we will not tell you its ticketing is better or worse than the platforms below; what we can say is that the meters are documented, and you can model them before you decide.

The 5 best Gorgias alternatives
The list runs in fit order, not score order, because the tool that best replaces Gorgias for a small Shopify store is not our highest-scored one. SendPulse holds the top score at 86/100 and sits second; Manychat outscores three of the others and sits fifth because it is not a helpdesk. Each inversion is explained where it happens.
1. Tidio — Shopify chat with order status, ten seats, and a conversation meter you can see
Best for: Small Shopify stores that want storefront chat, tickets and the whole team in one inbox without a ticket meter
Tidio is the closest match to what a small store uses Gorgias for. Our review lists a native Shopify connector that surfaces order status in the chat, a one-click Shopify and WordPress install, and native ticketing on every tier, including free, with email-to-ticket conversion. The inbox, which our reviewer worked on a live account, keeps live conversations and tickets in separate queues, adds a dedicated bucket for Lyro (Tidio's AI agent, which runs on Anthropic's Claude), and filters by Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp; handover scores 4.5/5 in the review. WhatsApp is included on every tier. Ten seats come with every paid plan.
The meter is conversations, not tickets. Starter covers 100 a month, and Growth at $59 raises the limit (the review lists up to 2,000) and adds auto-assignment and macros. AI is metered too, which is the part to read carefully: the 50 Lyro conversations on Free and Starter are a one-off allowance with no monthly refresh, so AI answering all month means Growth. The honest comparison with Gorgias is that you still pay more as volume grows, on two allowances (conversations and Lyro) rather than one. Our review does not document whether a Lyro-resolved chat also counts against the conversation limit, so ask Tidio before you model it. Compliance scores 58/100, and ticketing automations and departments only arrive on Plus at $749 a month, annual-only.
Choose Tidio over the others when: you run Shopify, most of your support is chat and email under a few hundred conversations a month, and you want several people in the inbox. Skip it if: you need SMS or voice (neither is a Tidio channel), or you rely on Gorgias-style order edits and refunds from inside the ticket, which our review does not document on Tidio. The storefront setup is covered in our Shopify chatbot integration guide.

2. SendPulse — No ticket meter, no AI meter
Best for: Stores that want chatbots, website chat and a shared inbox on one predictable subscription and can live without a ticket object
The highest editorial score on this page, ranked second because it replaces a different part of the stack than Gorgias does. SendPulse prices on subscriber count. There is no ticket fee and no AI resolution fee: ChatGPT and other model integrations sit inside the $12 Pro tier. That tier includes chatbots on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, Viber and TikTok, a native website live chat widget, and a shared inbox for WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, Viber, the widget and inbound email, with assignment and notes. The same account runs email and SMS campaigns a store might otherwise buy elsewhere, but those are priced separately from the $12 chatbot plan, and Meta's WhatsApp conversation fees pass through on top, as they do everywhere. On the Shopify side, our reviewer saw Shopify and Stripe MCP connections active in the bot's integrations panel, so a bot can pull catalog data during a conversation.
The gap is the ticket. There is no ticket object, no SLA timer and no order-management panel inside a thread, and a shared inbox is not a helpdesk. If your Gorgias usage is mostly "where is my order" and product questions answered in chat, the move works; if you track resolution times per agent or process returns inside tickets, you will miss it in the first week. Our hands-on testing connected Telegram on a live account; WhatsApp and Instagram connections were read from the vendor rather than run end to end.
Choose SendPulse over the others when: cost predictability matters more than ticket workflow, or you want to fold marketing messages and support into one tool. Skip it if: tickets, SLAs and in-thread order actions are the job.

3. Intercom — A full AI helpdesk, billed per seat instead of per ticket
Best for: Stores that need a real helpdesk with phone and would rather pay per agent than per ticket
The like-for-like on this page. Intercom is a full helpdesk with ticketing, and its inbox spans web chat, email, WhatsApp (all paid tiers), phone, Facebook, Instagram, X and Slack, with outbound SMS. Fin, the AI agent, is billed at $0.99 per resolved outcome, and that is the only AI fee: the human seat and the AI resolution are separate lines, rather than one resolution being billed on two meters. Our review rates the handoff from Fin to a human 5/5 on context transfer, with one caveat it states plainly: the scenario figures are an anchored editorial assessment from vendor documentation and trial screenshots, with paid-tier testing pending.
The billing logic is the inverse of Gorgias, and it cuts both ways. Seats cost $29 each on Essential and $85 on Advanced, so a store with six part-time agents pays for six seats. On the other side, a seasonal spike in tickets does not change the seat bill, only the Fin line. Our review scores pricing 42/100 and value for money 25/100. Our review also does not document a Shopify integration, so check Intercom's app directory for the store connection you need before you trial it.
Choose Intercom over the others when: you need a real helpdesk with phone, your agent count is small and stable, and your ticket volume swings. Skip it if: you have many part-time agents, or the goal is simply to spend less.

4. BotPenguin — Shopify and WooCommerce bots you can pilot for free
Best for: Budget stores that want to test a bot on real traffic before committing, on Shopify or WooCommerce
BotPenguin is the one to try when budget decides. Its Little tier ($29) includes 30-plus integrations, Shopify and WooCommerce among them, and our review describes a WhatsApp commerce scenario built on the Shopify integration, though the WhatsApp account was not provisioned during the session, so it was not run end to end. The free Baby tier carries the website widget plus WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram with 1,000 messages a month and unlimited subscribers, enough to run a slice of real traffic in parallel with Gorgias before your renewal. The vendor also claims WhatsApp conversation charges pass through at Meta's rates with no platform markup, which our review lists as a claim to confirm with sales.
The trade is depth and validation. The free tier is single-user, so a shared inbox starts on Little with five team members ($7 each beyond that). The inbox scores 3.5/5 in our review, functional rather than helpdesk-grade, and there is no ticket object. Trust signals are thin, with few aggregator reviews, and the admin interface is English only. Our testing was a free-trial walkthrough.
Choose BotPenguin over the others when: you want to prove a cheaper setup works on live traffic first, or you run WooCommerce as well as Shopify. Skip it if: you need tickets, SMS (enterprise tier only), or peer-review validation as part of procurement.

5. Manychat — When your "support" is really Instagram DMs
Best for: Social-first stores whose customer conversations start in Instagram and TikTok comments and DMs
Manychat is on this list for a specific kind of store, and it is not a helpdesk. For brands that sell through Instagram and TikTok, a large share of what lands in Gorgias as tickets starts as a comment or a DM: a price question, a size question, a "link please." Manychat is built for that moment, with Meta-approved comment-to-DM automation on Instagram, and its channels score of 95/100 is joint-highest in our catalog. Its inbox brings Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, SMS and email into one view with assignment and private notes, and our review rates the Instagram handover 4/5.
It ranks fifth despite an 84/100 score because it does not do what Gorgias does. There is no website chat widget, no ticket object and no order panel. Since March 2026, Essential allows two channels from Instagram, TikTok, Messenger and Telegram; WhatsApp, SMS or email need Pro at $39, and all seven channels need Business at $99. Inbox seats run one on Essential, two on Pro, three on Business. Manychat does connect to Shopify-based checkout flows, but our review describes payments running through Shopify or a direct API rather than a native store integration.
Choose Manychat over the others when: your support volume really comes from social comments and DMs, and a separate lightweight inbox can cover email. Skip it if: you need website chat or a helpdesk; pair it with Tidio instead of choosing between them.

How the ranking was constructed
17-dimension scoring rubric (methodology v3.12.1)
Every ranked platform is scored 0–100 against the rubric below — 17 dimensions in 6 weighted clusters. Cluster weights are published; per- dimension weights inside each cluster are documented in the methodology page and the per-review POC notes sibling file. Cluster weights were rebalanced in v3.12.1 (May 2026) to bring Pricing-and-Value closer to AI/NLU parity — reflecting the SMB persona's reality where price is a primary decision driver alongside AI capability.

How to choose your Gorgias replacement
Your invoice already tells you which alternative to shortlist.
Split last month's bill into its meters
Open Billing & usage in Gorgias and split the month into four lines: helpdesk tickets (including overage), AI Agent automation fees, Voice tickets and SMS tickets. Ticket-dominant bills with low AI use point to Tidio or SendPulse, where a conversation or a subscriber is the unit. Automation-dominant bills, where AI Agent is doing real work, point to SendPulse (no AI meter) or Intercom (one AI fee per resolution, no ticket fee beside it). Voice-heavy bills point to Intercom, the only alternative here with a phone channel in a full helpdesk inbox (BotPenguin adds a voice agent from its $99 King tier).
Then sort a month of tickets by type
Export thirty days and tag each ticket: order status and shipping, product and sizing questions, returns and refunds, and everything else. Order-status and product questions are what bots answer well on any platform here. Returns and refunds are where Gorgias's order data inside the ticket earns its price; if they are a large share, compare carefully before leaving. Our ecommerce chatbot playbook covers which of these a bot should own, and the deflection rate entry covers how to measure it after the switch.
Run both tools before you cancel
Export tickets, customers, macros and help-center articles first. Rules, views and AI Agent guidance do not transfer and have to be rebuilt. Route one channel, usually website chat, through the new tool for two weeks while Gorgias keeps email, and compare first response time on both. Our 14-day migration playbook has the sequence, and the bot vs human cost calculator turns your ticket mix into a monthly figure to set against the invoice.
One Gorgias-specific check before you switch: if your account was created before 28 May 2025 and you have not upgraded your AI Agent plan, you may still be on legacy pricing, where an AI-resolved ticket is charged one fee rather than two. That changes the math, and upgrading to use Shopping Assistant skills moves you to the current model.

- Pricing data
- Gorgias plan prices (Starter $10 / 50 tickets, Basic $60 / 300, Pro $360 / 2,000, Advanced $900 / 5,000, Enterprise custom), overage rates ($0.40 Starter and Basic, $0.25 Pro), the seven-day trial, the up-to-17% annual discount and Voice from $70 a month come from the vendor's plan guide at gorgias.com/blog/gorgias-plan (updated May 2026), read 26 September 2026. The live pricing table at gorgias.com/pricing is rendered by script and our tools did not capture its figures, so we did not read prices from it; confirm there before purchase. AI Agent rates ($0.90 per resolved interaction on most plans, $1.00 on Starter) come from the vendor's AI Agent pricing guide, read the same day. Every billing rule on this page (billable-ticket definition, ticket fee plus automation fee on AI-resolved tickets, the 72-hour automated-interaction rule, Voice and SMS as per-ticket add-ons, channel split periods, the $60/300 + $0.40 worked example, and legacy pricing for accounts created before 28 May 2025) comes from the help-center article 'How you're billed for using Gorgias' at docs.gorgias.com, read 26 September 2026. Where the plan guide and the help center disagree (the plan guide says AI-resolved conversations are not billable tickets), we follow the help center. All alternative pricing is carried from each platform's Tier 1 review ledger using monthly-billed rates. Re-verify before purchase; SaaS pricing changes frequently.

Gorgias carries no score because no Chatbotscape review of Gorgias exists yet, and for the same reason this page compares billing models and documented capabilities, not helpdesk quality.
