Best Chatbot for WordPress in 2026 — Ranked on Plugin Directory Evidence
Quick answer~1 min
TL;DR~30 sec
For most WordPress sites the answer is Tidio, because it is the only platform here whose plugin has both scale and maintenance behind it, and because its WooCommerce integration surfaces visitor carts and order history inside the chat window. Pick SendPulse instead if $12/month at 500 subscribers and a working free plan matter more than installing something 70,000 other sites already run. Pick Chatbase if the job is answering questions your blog and docs already answer. Pick Typebot if you want the code. Every score below is carried unchanged from a published Chatbotscape review under our 17-dimension rubric; every plugin figure was pulled from the WordPress.org Plugin Directory API on 4 August 2026 and is reproducible by anyone who queries the same endpoint.

Data source disclosure
- Pricing data
- Cheapest monthly-billed paid tier carried from each Tier 1 review's pricing ledger per the pricing methodology at /methodology#pricing. Annual-billed rates are lower and are not used as headline figures.
- Scoring data
- Editorial scores are weighted composites across 17 dimensions covering AI/NLU (15% weight), pricing (12%), channels (10%), integrations (9%), support, security, and platform foundations. Each score is carried over unchanged from the linked Tier 1 review; this page does not recompute scores. Ranking order follows WordPress deployment fit, not composite score, and every inversion is explained where it happens.
- Testing observations
- Plugin telemetry (active installs, star rating, rating count, tested-up-to version, added date, last-updated date) was read from the WordPress.org Plugin Directory API on 4 August 2026. No plugin on this page has been installed on a Chatbotscape test site; platform behavior claims are carried from each review's hands-on record and labeled by evidence depth.
- Policy data
- Chatbotscape earns commission on paid sign-ups through affiliate links on this page. Commission does not influence editorial scores, which are carried unchanged from full reviews, and it does not influence the ranking order, which follows WordPress deployment fit. Full policy at /legal/affiliate-disclosure.
- Plugin directory data
- Every plugin figure on this page came from the public WordPress.org Plugin Directory API, read on 4 August 2026. Any reader can reproduce it: request api.wordpress.org/plugins/info/1.2/ with action=plugin_information and request[slug] set to tidio-live-chat, sendpulse-live-chat-and-chatbot, chatbase, typebot, intercom, botpenguinbot or wati-chat-and-notification. The figures quoted here are the raw values of the active_installs, rating, num_ratings, version, tested, added and last_updated fields in that JSON response, unedited apart from converting rating from the API's 0-100 integer to the five-point scale. Two reading notes: active_installs is published in buckets rather than exact counts, and the tested field returns whatever version string the vendor declared, which is why the values are quoted exactly as returned (7.0.2, 6.9.5, 6.8.6, 6.7.5) rather than normalized.
What the plugin directory actually tells you
Every chatbot vendor claims WordPress support. The claim is nearly free to make, because embedding a chat widget on WordPress requires nothing more than pasting a JavaScript snippet into the footer. What separates the six platforms below is whether the vendor also maintains a plugin, and whether that plugin is alive.
Three directory fields do most of the diagnostic work. Active installs shows adoption in coarse buckets. Tested up to is the WordPress version the vendor declares compatibility with, and a plugin stuck two major versions back is a maintenance signal, not a compatibility guarantee. Last updated dates the most recent release. A plugin with 5,000 installs and a last release in early 2025 is not broken, but it tells you where the vendor's engineering attention goes.
Read those three fields together rather than one at a time, because each of them alone flatters somebody. Tidio's plugin has been listed since 14 April 2014, twelve years in the directory, and still ships releases tested against the current line. Intercom's is a year older, listed since 27 April 2013, but has not shipped since April 2025: longevity without maintenance. SendPulse's chat plugin is the mirror image: listed since 12 February 2024, shipping as recently as 25 May 2026, tested to 7.0.2, and still at 100 installs with no ratings at all. Two and a half years in the directory is long enough that the count reads as a demand signal rather than a launch artifact, so this is maintenance without adoption. Only Tidio's plugin has all three.
The 2026 ranking — 6 platforms that run on WordPress
Two things put a platform on this list: a published Chatbotscape review, and a vendor-maintained web-chat surface we would recommend as a WordPress site's primary chat install at SMB pricing. Nine reviewed platforms are not here. Two of them cannot be, because they ship no on-site widget at all. The other seven are judgment calls, and the section after the cards gives the reason for each rather than hiding behind a rule. Ordering does not follow composite score. It follows a three-part read, applied in this order: (1) how well the platform's core job matches what a WordPress site needs from chat, (2) what the install path costs you in maintenance risk, weighed against how much independent validation the vendor carries outside the directory, and (3) price. Plugin maintenance is a strong input to step 2, not the whole ranking, and where it pulls against the other two we say so in the entry.
Three placements need their reasoning stated up front, because a reader checking the table against the rank numbers will notice them. SendPulse holds the highest editorial score on this page at 86/100 and ranks second on a plugin nobody uses, because $12/month at 500 subscribers, a free plan you can run in production, and a 96/100 trust-signal score across 4,000-plus aggregator reviews are worth more than a plugin's install count. Chatbase ranks third on a stale plugin, because answering from your own published content is the job a content-heavy WordPress site most often actually needs, and its snippet path is vendor-supported regardless of the plugin's age. BotPenguin ranks sixth on a plugin profile close to SendPulse's, 600 installs and no ratings, and the difference is what sits behind it: SendPulse's thin plugin adoption is offset by a heavy third-party record, while BotPenguin's trust signals score 50/100 on 6 Capterra reviews and 40 on TrustPilot. Thin plugin plus thin validation is a different risk from thin plugin alone.
- Best Chatbot for WordPress 2026·#1
Tidio
Best for the default WordPress and WooCommerce chat stack
- Strongest:
- Trust signals (90/100) — its highest rubric dimension; integrations score 80/100, the figure that matters most here
- From:
- $29/mo Starter (monthly-billed, 50 one-off Lyro AI conversations); free tier available
The directory evidence is not close. Tidio's official plugin (
tidio-live-chat) reports 70,000 active installs and a 4.7/5 rating across 396 ratings, against 6,000 installs and 11 ratings for Intercom's, the next largest vendor plugin here. It has been listed since 14 April 2014 and declares compatibility with WordPress 7.0.2 as of 16 June 2026, the only chatbot plugin among the six ranked here that pairs a current release with an install base at this scale. WooCommerce is the reason to shortlist it: the plugin's directory listing documents surfacing visitor carts and order history inside the conversation and sending product cards from chat, and our review verified WordPress and Shopify as native integrations against Capterra's recurring-strength themes and Tidio's own pricing-page disclosure, scoring the dimension 80/100. Behind the widget sits Lyro, an AI agent running on Anthropic's Claude. Read the allowance carefully: the 50 Lyro conversations on Free and Starter are a one-off grant with no monthly refresh, so past that point AI answering means the Growth tier at $59/month. WhatsApp, by contrast, is available on every tier including Free. The real limits sit higher up the ladder: ticketing automations and departments arrive only on Plus, which our Tidio ledger records at $749/month annual-only, and compliance scores 58/100. Full ledger in the Tidio review; the premium head-to-head is Intercom vs Tidio.Strong fit ifYou run WordPress or WooCommerce, you want live chat and an AI agent from one install, and you would rather click Activate than edit a theme file.
Weak fit ifYou need Telegram or SMS as native channels, or your budget stops below $29/month once the free tier's 50 conversations run out.

SendPulse
Best for the cheapest functional entry, on a plugin almost nobody has installed
- Strongest:
- Pricing (96/100) — the verified category lower bound in our chatbot-builder dataset, tied with trust signals at 96/100
- From:
- $12/mo Pro at the 500-subscriber slider (monthly-billed); free plan covers 3 bots and 500 subscribers
The highest editorial score on this page sits at number two, and the plugin is the reason. SendPulse does maintain an official chat plugin,
sendpulse-live-chat-and-chatbot, listed since 12 February 2024 and well kept: version 1.3.3, released 25 May 2026, tested against WordPress 7.0.2. It also reports 100 active installs and no ratings at all, the thinnest adoption of any plugin on this page, and after two and a half years in the directory that is a demand signal rather than a launch artifact. Maintained but unproven, and worth knowing before you click Activate. What sits behind it is the cheapest real entry in our catalog. The $12/month Pro tier at the 500-subscriber slider position bundles the native website live chat widget SendPulse shipped in June 2023, chatbots across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, Viber and TikTok, ChatGPT integration, a free CRM, plus email campaigns; channels score 90/100 across those seven messaging surfaces plus email. The free plan (3 bots, 500 subscribers, live chat included) is a working production entry rather than a demo, and our reviewer exercised it on a live account. Two more vendor plugins matter if you run a store:sendpulse-crm-for-woocommerce(added 19 June 2026, 0 installs) andsendpulse-subscription-for-woocommerce(added 31 December 2024, 30 installs, last shipped 3 August 2026). Both are tested to 7.0.2; neither has an install base worth calling adoption. Watch the subscriber slider rather than the headline price, because $12 is the 500-subscriber position and the bill moves with your list. Evidence trail in the SendPulse review and SendPulse alternatives.Strong fit ifBudget is the binding constraint, you want email, CRM and landing pages on the same subscription, and you are comfortable running a vendor plugin that has been listed since February 2024 and still has almost no installed base.
Weak fit ifYou want a chat plugin with proven adoption behind it, or your procurement weighs install counts.

Chatbase
Best for answering the questions your posts and docs already answer
- Strongest:
- Practical UX (100/100) — free-tier self-serve onboarding with no sales call; bot-building scores 90/100 on an 8-minute time-to-first-bot
- From:
- $40/mo Hobby (monthly-billed); free tier includes the widget, help page, API and WordPress channel
The right pick for a specific diagnosis: a WordPress site whose chat volume is really a search problem. Chatbase ingests your pages, posts, help articles and uploaded documents, then answers from them using retrieval-augmented generation, with the strongest citation behavior in its category (88% citation accuracy) and the fastest time-to-first-bot in our Tier 1 batch at 8 minutes. WordPress is one of the channels available on the free tier alongside the widget, help page and API, which makes evaluation genuinely free. The plugin is the weak point. The official
chatbaseplugin reports 5,000 active installs and 3.4/5 across 13 ratings, but version 1.0.4 was last released on 3 March 2025 and declares itself tested only against WordPress 6.7.5. Treat the snippet install as the supported path and the plugin as a convenience. There is no human inbox behind this: channels score 50/100 and support documentation 50/100, and escalation hands off to whatever tool you keep elsewhere. Full assessment in the Chatbase review.Strong fit ifYour WordPress site is content-heavy, your support load is repeat questions, and you want an agent grounded in pages you have already written.
Weak fit ifYou want live chat with humans behind it, multi-step transactional flows, or a plugin under active maintenance.

Typebot
Best for open-source control and a self-host path
- Strongest:
- Ecosystem and extensibility (100/100) — open source, self-hostable, native embeds for modern web stacks; tied with practical UX at 100/100
- From:
- $39/mo Starter (monthly-billed); Personal Free tier at $0 covers 200 chats/month; self-hosting free under the source license
The pick for teams that want the source. Typebot is Baptiste Arnaud's open-source builder, and its official plugin sits in the directory with 3,000 active installs, a 5.0/5 rating across 6 ratings, a release from 8 April 2026, and compatibility declared to WordPress 6.8.6. That is a small sample on a well-maintained plugin, which is a different risk profile from a large sample on a stale one. What Typebot builds is conversational forms rather than a support desk: multi-step flows that replace the contact page, qualify a lead and hand the result to your stack. Genuine bring-your-own-LLM is the structural differentiator, scoring developer experience 95/100. You connect your own provider key and pay OpenAI, Anthropic or Google directly instead of paying a platform markup on tokens, which our BYOLLM guide explains in cost terms. The constraints are specific: channel support scores 50/100 because the platform is web-anchored, value for money scores 23/100 against cheaper multi-channel rivals, the admin UI is English only, and self-hosting means you own the uptime. Read the Typebot review and the developer-platform comparison in Botpress vs Typebot.
Strong fit ifYou or your developer are comfortable with a Docker deployment, you want conversational forms rather than a support inbox, and you would rather own the AI billing relationship.
Weak fit ifYou need Instagram, Telegram or SMS as native channels, or an admin interface in a language other than English.

Intercom
Best for WordPress as the front door to a real helpdesk
- Strongest:
- Trust signals (96/100) — tied with SendPulse for the strongest third-party validation in our Tier 1 batch; channels score 92/100
- From:
- $29/seat/mo Essential (monthly-billed) plus $0.99 per Fin AI resolution
Second-highest score on the page, fifth place, and the gap between those two facts is what this entry is about. Intercom is a full helpdesk scoring 92/100 on channels, third in our catalog behind Blip and Manychat at 95, and human handoff from its Fin AI agent into a staffed inbox is the cleanest we have reviewed. Its official plugin has been in the directory since 27 April 2013 and reports 6,000 active installs at 3.4/5 across 11 ratings, but version 3.0.2 last shipped on 16 April 2025 and declares compatibility only to WordPress 6.7.5. The pricing shape is the bigger filter. Essential runs $29 per seat per month and Fin bills $0.99 per resolved outcome, scoring 42/100 on the pricing dimension and 25/100 on value for money because two meters move at once. For a WordPress site that is the marketing surface of a company already running support at scale, that math works. For a WordPress site that is the company, the four platforms above cost less and install more cleanly. Full ledger in the Intercom review.
Strong fit ifWordPress is your marketing site but your support operation needs ticketing, SLAs and clean escalation across email, chat, WhatsApp and phone.
Weak fit ifWordPress is the whole business. Per-seat plus per-resolution billing is built for support teams, not for a five-page site with a contact form.

BotPenguin
Best for a free multi-channel widget with a current plugin
- Strongest:
- Support and documentation (80/100), tied with practical UX at 80/100; pricing follows at 79/100
- From:
- $29/mo Little (monthly-billed); Baby Free tier includes the website widget and 1,000 messages/month
The budget entry, and the surprise of the directory pull. BotPenguin's official plugin (
botpenguinbot) reports only 600 active installs and no ratings at all, yet it declares compatibility with WordPress 6.9.5 and last shipped on 4 June 2026, which is the second-freshest release on this page. Its plugin is in fact better adopted than SendPulse's at rank two, 600 installs to 100, so the plugin is not why it sits last. The deciding factor sits outside the directory: SendPulse carries 4,294 aggregator reviews averaging about 4.53 stars across G2, Capterra and TrustPilot, while BotPenguin carries 46. The website widget is included on every tier including the free one, alongside WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram, with unlimited subscribers even on Baby Free and 1,000 messages a month to evaluate with. WooCommerce sits in the 30-plus integration set that opens at the $29 Little tier. Our review is direct about the risk: the aggregator footprint is thin (Capterra 6 reviews, TrustPilot 40, G2 page blocked at scan), which scores trust signals at 50/100, and the admin UI is English only. Evidence trail in the BotPenguin review.Strong fit ifYou want the website widget plus WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram from one budget vendor, and you are comfortable with a vendor whose third-party review footprint is thin.
Weak fit ifYou want aggregator validation before you commit, or an admin UI in a language other than English.
70/100Full review
Who is missing, and why
Nine platforms in our reviewed catalog are not on this list. Two are hard exclusions. The other seven ship a website widget and were left off on judgment, which we would rather show than dress up as a rule.
The two that cannot run your WordPress chat
Manychat (84/100) is the one worth stating plainly, because it outscores all six platforms above except SendPulse and gets recommended for WordPress constantly. It ships no website chat widget. Our review verifies seven native channels covering Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, TikTok, SMS and email, and on-site web chat is not among them. Pairing Manychat with a separate live-chat tool is a legitimate architecture; installing Manychat as your WordPress chat is not an option the product supports. See the Manychat review.
AiSensy (71/100) is the same story in a different market. It is a WhatsApp specialist, its review records no website widget, and its WhatsApp Website Widget integration generates a click-to-chat entry point rather than an on-site conversation. See the AiSensy review.
The seven we left off on judgment
Landbot (72/100) has the most polished web-widget surface in our catalog and effectively invented the conversational-website category in 2017. It is off this list on metering and install path, not capability: no directory plugin, and AI Chats metered at €1 each beyond the plan allotment, which makes the running cost of a busy site hard to forecast. If your goal is a conversational landing page rather than site-wide chat, put it back on your shortlist. The Landbot review has the detail.
Chatfuel (69/100) ships a native website widget inside its single $69/month plan, and its own review names web-widget-primary operators as a strong fit. What keeps it off is the pricing logic: $69 flat is priced for Meta-channel volume, which is poor value if the website is your only surface. Tars (76/100) is web-primary too, with a one-click widget and a conversational-landing-page mode, but Premium starts at $499/month. Blip (73/100) has native enterprise web chat at $500 per user per month, per Capterra's third-party listing; Blip's own pricing page is contact-sales-only. Either way, outside this page's band entirely.
Botpress (81/100) and Voiceflow (75/100) both ship first-class web chat widgets, and both are developer platforms with no vendor plugin, priced from $189/month monthly-billed and demo-gated respectively. If you have engineering time and want the widget to be one surface of a larger agent, they belong on a different shortlist.
Wati (68/100) has a web chat widget in its unified inbox, and it also deserves a directory warning. Searching WordPress.org for Wati returns wati-chat-and-notification, published by an independent developer rather than the vendor, reporting 600 active installs and one rating at 1/5, last shipped on 7 May 2025. If you deploy Wati on WordPress, use the vendor's own snippet and ignore that plugin.
Editorial scoring breakdown
Scores are carried unchanged from each platform's Tier 1 review. Everything to the right of the score column is directory telemetry or vendor-published pricing, not a rubric dimension.
| Platform | Editorial score | Vendor plugin | Active installs | Rating | Tested up to | Last release | Cheapest paid (monthly-billed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tidio | 75 | Yes — tidio-live-chat | 70,000 | 4.7/5 (396) | WP 7.0.2 | 16 Jun 2026 | $29/mo Starter |
| SendPulse | 86 | Yes — sendpulse-live-chat-and-chatbot | 100 | no ratings | WP 7.0.2 | 25 May 2026 | $12/mo Pro (500 subs) |
| Chatbase | 73 | Yes — chatbase | 5,000 | 3.4/5 (13) | WP 6.7.5 | 3 Mar 2025 | $40/mo Hobby |
| Typebot | 70 | Yes — typebot | 3,000 | 5.0/5 (6) | WP 6.8.6 | 8 Apr 2026 | $39/mo Starter |
| Intercom | 76 | Yes — intercom | 6,000 | 3.4/5 (11) | WP 6.7.5 | 16 Apr 2025 | $29/seat + $0.99/resolution |
| BotPenguin | 70 | Yes — botpenguinbot | 600 | no ratings | WP 6.9.5 | 4 Jun 2026 | $29/mo Little (free tier) |
Directory figures were read from the WordPress.org Plugin Directory API on 4 August 2026 and are the raw field values from that response. Active-install counts are published in buckets, not exact numbers. Star ratings convert the API's 0-100 integer (Tidio 94, Chatbase 68, Typebot 100, Intercom 68) to the familiar five-point scale. Plugin versions at time of reading: Tidio 8.0.0, SendPulse 1.3.3, Chatbase 1.0.4, Typebot 4.4.0, Intercom 3.0.2, BotPenguin 1.5.4.
How the ranking was constructed
17-dimension scoring rubric (methodology v3.12.1)
Every ranked platform is scored 0–100 against the rubric below — 17 dimensions in 6 weighted clusters. Cluster weights are published; per- dimension weights inside each cluster are documented in the methodology page and the per-review POC notes sibling file. Cluster weights were rebalanced in v3.12.1 (May 2026) to bring Pricing-and-Value closer to AI/NLU parity — reflecting the SMB persona's reality where price is a primary decision driver alongside AI capability.

How to choose — three questions
Question 1: What is the chat actually for?
- Repeat questions your published content already answers → Chatbase, or Tidio's Lyro
- A human conversation with a visitor, with a bot covering off-hours → Tidio, SendPulse, BotPenguin
- Replacing a contact form with a qualifying flow → Typebot, or Landbot by embed
- A ticketed support queue where WordPress is only the entry point → Intercom
Question 2: How does the install have to happen?
- One-click from the WordPress admin, maintained by the vendor, with adoption behind it → Tidio, Typebot
- Maintained vendor plugin, but you would be an early adopter → SendPulse (100 installs), BotPenguin (600)
- Plugin exists but is stale; snippet is the safer path → Chatbase, Intercom
- Snippet only, no vendor plugin → Landbot, Chatfuel, Botpress or Voiceflow, if you shortlist beyond this page
Question 3: What is the monthly ceiling?
- $0 → SendPulse free plan (3 bots, 500 subscribers, 10,000 messages), BotPenguin Baby Free (5 channels, 1,000 messages), Tidio free tier, Typebot Personal Free (200 chats/month), Chatbase free tier (widget, help page, API, WordPress channel)
- Under $30 → SendPulse Pro at $12, BotPenguin Little at $29, Tidio Starter at $29
- $30 to $50 → Typebot Starter at $39, Chatbase Hobby at $40
- Usage-priced → Intercom at $29/seat plus $0.99 per Fin resolution
The bot vs human cost calculator turns your actual conversation volume into a monthly figure, which is a better input to this decision than a tier name.
Three WordPress-specific things to check before you install
Where the script loads. Every widget here is a third-party JavaScript file, and a chat widget in the critical rendering path is the most common way a chat install shows up in a Core Web Vitals report. Load it deferred, and measure your Largest Contentful Paint before and after rather than trusting either the vendor's claim or ours.
Consent, if you serve the EU. Chat widgets set cookies and process visitor data. If your site runs a consent manager, the widget script belongs in a gated category rather than firing on page load, which usually means blocking it until consent and accepting that some visitors will not see chat.
Plugin conflicts on caching and optimization stacks. Aggressive JavaScript deferral and combination plugins are the usual cause of a chat widget that works on staging and vanishes in production. Exclude the widget's script from combination, then retest. Our add a chatbot to your website guide covers the deployment sequence in more detail, and the website chatbot channel guide covers what the on-site surface is good at.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best chatbot plugin for WordPress in 2026?
Tidio, on the evidence available. Its official plugin reports 70,000 active installs and 4.7/5 across 396 ratings in the WordPress.org directory as of 4 August 2026, and it is one of only two plugins among the six we rank that declares compatibility with the current WordPress 7.0.2 release; the other is SendPulse's, at 100 installs. Tidio also carries the deepest WooCommerce integration of the group. Its editorial score of 75/100 is mid-pack in our catalog, which is the framing that matters: Tidio wins this page on WordPress fit, not on being our highest-scored platform overall. SendPulse scores higher at 86/100 and costs less at $12/month for 500 subscribers, and it ranks second here because its chat plugin, while current, has 100 installs against Tidio's 70,000.
Is there a free chatbot for WordPress?
Five of the six have free tiers, and three of those are usable in production. SendPulse's free plan covers 3 bots, 500 subscribers and 10,000 messages a month with the website live chat included, the largest free message allowance of the six. BotPenguin's Baby Free tier gives you the website widget plus WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram with 1,000 messages a month and unlimited subscribers. Tidio's free tier includes live chat with 50 conversations and a one-off allowance of 50 Lyro AI conversations. The other two are evaluation-scale: Typebot's Personal Free covers 200 chats a month with unlimited typebots, and Chatbase's free tier includes WordPress as a channel but not much volume. Our best free chatbot ranking compares the $0 tiers on their own terms.
Do I need a plugin, or is a script enough?
A script is functionally enough. Every platform on this page renders the same widget whether it arrives via plugin or via a snippet in your footer. What the plugin adds is a settings screen inside WordPress, survival across theme changes, and in Tidio's case the WooCommerce data hooks that a bare script cannot provide. The practical argument for the plugin is maintenance: a script pasted into a child theme's footer disappears the day someone switches themes, and nobody remembers why chat stopped working.
Which WordPress chatbot works with WooCommerce?
Tidio has the deepest integration of the group. Two sources back that: the plugin's own directory listing documents viewing visitor carts and order history and sending product cards in chat, and our Tier 1 review separately verified WordPress and Shopify as native integrations against Capterra's recurring-strength themes and Tidio's pricing-page disclosure. The cart and order specifics are the vendor's claim; the integration's existence and depth are ours. BotPenguin lists WooCommerce among the 30-plus integrations that open at its $29 Little tier. Chatbase can answer questions about products if your product pages are in its knowledge base, but it does not read live order data. If the store is the business rather than a sideline, the best chatbot for ecommerce ranking weighs commerce features more heavily than this page does, and our Shopify integration guide covers the equivalent decision on the other major platform.
Will a chat widget slow down my WordPress site?
It can, and the variable is how you load it rather than which vendor you choose. All six widgets are third-party JavaScript fetched from the vendor's CDN. Loaded synchronously in the head, that is a measurable hit to Largest Contentful Paint; loaded deferred or after user interaction, the impact is usually small. We have not benchmarked these widgets on a controlled WordPress install, so we publish no payload sizes or timing figures here. Run your own before-and-after in PageSpeed Insights on a real page of your site, and treat any vendor's performance claim, or ours, as something to verify rather than accept.
Can I use Manychat on WordPress?
Not as your website chat. Manychat is a messenger-marketing platform covering Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, TikTok, SMS and email, and our review verifies that it ships no on-site web chat widget. WordPress plugins that reference Manychat are third-party tools for embedding growth links or blocks, not a chat surface. If Manychat is already your messenger stack and you also need website chat, run a second tool for the widget, or look at the platforms above.
How often do these plugin numbers change?
Active-install counts move slowly and are published in buckets, so a jump from 5,000 to 6,000 reflects a range rather than a thousand new sites. Ratings and release dates move faster and matter more. We re-read the directory at each scheduled refresh of this page; the figures here were captured on 4 August 2026, and anyone can verify them against the same public API endpoint.
About this ranking
Chatbotscape launched in 2026 and does not claim the accumulated authority of established analyst firms. What we can offer on this page is a reproducible evidence base: the plugin figures come from a public API anyone can query, the editorial scores come from full reviews with their own evidence ledgers, and the gaps in our knowledge are stated rather than filled. The ranking rests on directory maintenance and review-verified capability, which is the evidence we actually hold.
Who "we" are is on the record: this page carries the institutional byline of the Chatbotscape editorial team, which is the same group that produced the six linked reviews and the 17-dimension methodology behind their scores. Corrections go to editorial@chatbotscape.com and are logged in version history, and the next scheduled re-read of the plugin directory is dated at the foot of this page.

Methodology
Rankings reflect Chatbotscape's evaluation of the 2026 SMB chatbot catalog against our 17-dimension scoring rubric, with the ordering on this page determined by WordPress deployment fit rather than composite score. Pricing follows the cheapest monthly-billed tier convention. Source-verification standards are documented at /methodology/sources and our correction policy at /methodology/editorial-policy.

5 August 2026 — Initial publication. Plugin directory telemetry captured 4 August 2026 for the six ranked platforms plus the Wati plugin named in the exclusion section. Correction applied before publication: an earlier draft stated that SendPulse ships no chatbot plugin, based on a keyword search that surfaced only the vendor's push and newsletter plugins. A direct slug lookup found sendpulse-live-chat-and-chatbot (100 installs, no ratings, tested 7.0.2, released 25 May 2026); the SendPulse entry, the scoring table, the install-path framework and two FAQ answers were rewritten accordingly. Second correction, same day: the SendPulse plugin's directory-added date (12 February 2024) had been omitted from the maintenance comparison, which framed a two-and-a-half-year-old plugin as new; and one FAQ answer described Tidio as the only ranked plugin declaring WordPress 7.x compatibility, which SendPulse's plugin also does. Both corrected, along with the two WooCommerce plugin figures and the BotPenguin ranking rationale. Next scheduled refresh: 5 November 2026, or sooner if Tidio, Chatbase or Intercom ship a release that changes the maintenance picture.
