Winner by scenario

  • AI on WhatsApp under $100 a month
    Manychat
Manychat Pro at $39 includes Manychat AI and WhatsApp on 2,500 contacts. The first Wati tier with Astra is Pro at $149, with 250 AI replies a month.
  • WhatsApp template manager, broadcasts, Click-to-WhatsApp ads
    WATI
Wati's template library, campaign dashboard and CTWA tracking (4.5/5 in its protocol) are the product; Manychat's WhatsApp is one channel tab of seven.
  • Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, TikTok as real automation surfaces
    Manychat
Seven native channels with first-class triggers. Wati's adjacent channels are inbox-level: conversations arrive, automation depth stays on WhatsApp.
  • Voice AI agent and Hindi
    WATI
Astra Voice at ~750 ms median round-trip and a 76% Hindi intent figure, the only one on this pair. Manychat transcribes voice notes and reports no Hindi figure.
  • High-volume broadcasting to a large list in a low-rate market (India)
    WATI
Wati Pro's broadcasts are unlimited on a flat $149 seat plan; Manychat's contact meter passes that at about 9,500 contacts. To Brazilian numbers the 20 percent markup hands the same scenario back to Manychat; the pricing section works both.
  • Trial, free tier and the cost of a fourth user
    Manychat
14-day trial and a (non-WhatsApp) Free plan against Wati's 7 days and no free tier; Manychat's fourth user is $99 on Business, Wati's is $149 on Pro because Growth's three seats cannot be expanded.

Manychat and Wati both sell WhatsApp automation to small businesses, and the sixteen-point score gap (84 against 68) says less about WhatsApp than it looks. Manychat is a seven-channel messenger-marketing builder where WhatsApp arrives on the Pro tier at $39 a month monthly-billed, AI included, metered by active contacts (2,500 on Pro). Wati is a WhatsApp Business API specialist metered by seats and quotas: Growth at $69 buys three seats, 15,000 broadcasts and no AI agent; Pro at $149 adds Astra, the AI agent with voice and 30-plus languages. Both are Meta Business Solution Providers. If WhatsApp is one of your channels and you have under about 2,500 contacts, Manychat is cheaper by a factor of 1.8 to 3.8 on the platform line and does more on Instagram and Messenger. If WhatsApp is the whole business, you broadcast at volume, you need Hindi or Arabic in the admin UI or a voice agent on the number, Wati is the specialist, and at 10,000 broadcasts a month to 15,000 Indian contacts its seat plan comes in under Manychat's contact plan even with Wati's ~20 percent markup on Meta's rates. Both reviews' Meta fee lines are out of date; the pricing section reprices every scenario on Meta's 1 July 2026 card.

Editorial TL;DR — full structural read~4 min

Different categories, one shared channel. On our taxonomy Manychat is a chatbot-builder and Wati is a whatsapp-specialist, and the taxonomy is right. Manychat's product is a flow builder that talks to seven messaging surfaces, with Instagram comment-to-DM as the workflow its reviewers name first and WhatsApp as the channel that starts at Pro. Wati's product is a WhatsApp Business Account with a team inbox, a template manager built around Meta's header-body-footer-button constraints, a broadcast scheduler, Click-to-WhatsApp ad tracking and, on Pro and above, an AI agent that also answers phone calls. Its Messenger, Instagram, web chat and SMS are a unified inbox view, not automation surfaces, and its own review scores channel support at 50 for saying so.

The score gap is mostly rubric, and this page shows how much. Recomputed from the seventeen dimension scores in the two reviews' frontmatter, Manychat is 83.59 and Wati 68.31, a 15.28-point spread. 4.50 of it is the channel-breadth row, where a one-channel platform loses 45 points to a seven-channel one. 2.25 of it is Value for Money, which the Wati review scores at zero because its category's pricing dataset is four platforms short of the threshold; that is a deferral, not a verdict. Remove both rows and renormalize, and Manychat still leads 82.6 to 72.8, on AI/NLU, pricing, ecosystem, trust signals and support. The Wati review says Wati would score "comfortably 84+" on a WhatsApp-only rubric. We tried to reproduce that by removal and could not; a rubric that rewards WhatsApp depth would need a dimension this one does not have. Manychat leads fifteen rows, Wati leads one (compliance, 79 to 72), and integrations tie at 78.

The meter decides the price, not the tier name. Manychat counts active contacts: 2,500 on Pro, then $0.05 each, then Business at 7,500 and Advanced at 25,000. Wati counts seats and quotas: three seats on Growth with no way to buy a fourth, 1,000 automation triggers, 15,000 broadcasts, and on Pro five seats, unlimited broadcasts and 250 AI replies. For an SMB with AI on WhatsApp and a small list, Manychat Pro at $39 sits against Wati Pro at $149, a 3.8x gap (2.2x if Manychat's AI turns out to be the $29 add-on its product page still describes). For a broadcaster with 15,000 opted-in contacts sending 10,000 marketing templates a month to Indian numbers, Manychat needs Advanced at $199 and Wati needs Pro at $149, and after Meta's fees, markup included, Wati is about $26 a month cheaper. The crossover is real and it is where Wati's buyers live.

Both reviews' Meta lines need repricing, in opposite directions. The Manychat review quotes "$0.005-0.09 per conversation", the conversation-based model Meta retired on 1 July 2025. The Wati review uses per-message pricing but prices its standard scenario at a "$0.025 LATAM average" that matches neither the Brazilian nor the Indian row of the card we read; on the 1 July 2026 USD card our channel-mix guide read on 21 September, a marketing template is $0.0118 to India, $0.0625 to Brazil and $0.0250 on the North America row, and is not delivered to US numbers at all. Every Meta figure on this page is recomputed on that card, with and without Wati's ~20 percent markup, which the review documents from five third-party comparisons and did not audit against an invoice. Manychat's review says pass-through and gives no markup figure either way.

Neither side's WhatsApp figures are measurements, on the reviews' own words. The Manychat review calls its six-scenario protocol "methodology-anchored simulation" in its walkthrough and, two sections later, reports "9 hours of active testing" for the same protocol; its authenticated session was 45 minutes on a Free plan with a Telegram bot, and it lists WhatsApp OAuth and BSP setup as not exercised. The Wati review reports its protocol as run on a Pro-tier workspace with eleven authenticated screenshots and a Shopify add-on activated, and, in its features section, says the same protocol "is pre-registered for this platform" with a "planned methodology". Both reviews disagree with themselves about what kind of number they have, so this page gives both columns the same label, protocol figure of undetermined class, and scores neither. Wati's figures are more specifically described (which surface, which tier, which screenshot); that is a difference of description, not of class. The 26-hour and 28-hour approval figures are two hours apart and both sit above the 24-hour review window Meta publishes, per our WhatsApp message template audit. Sibling pages that present Manychat's figures as measured are flagged. No friction aggregate is published for either.

Who should pick which. Instagram-led, Messenger-led or multi-channel SMBs, LATAM and Brazil operators, creators, agencies, and anyone under about 2,500 contacts who wants AI on WhatsApp without a $149 line: Manychat. WhatsApp-first businesses in India, the Gulf or Southeast Asia, Shopify stores whose order flow runs on WhatsApp, teams that broadcast at volume, buyers who need Arabic or Chinese in the admin UI, and anyone who wants the AI agent to pick up a phone call: Wati. The overlap zone, a WhatsApp-first SMB with a small list and a three-person team, is where the pricing section earns its keep.

WhatsApp plus Instagram plus Messenger from one builder, under 2,500 contacts

Pro at $39 monthly-billed gives three of seven channels including WhatsApp, 2,500 active contacts, three users and Manychat AI. Wati's Instagram and Messenger are inbox-level per its own review (channel support scored 50); the automation depth is on WhatsApp only. See Instagram DM automation for what "first-class" means on that channel.

WhatsApp is the whole business: template manager, broadcasts, campaign dashboard

Wati's template library, approval-status list, campaign overview with delivery, read and reply rates, and per-tier broadcast quotas (15,000 on Growth, unlimited on Pro) are the core product, and our WhatsApp channel guide rates its template manager the most extensive native authoring surface in the shortlist. Manychat sends WhatsApp broadcasts, but the surface is generic across channels. Read the broadcast campaign guide before sizing either.

AI agent on WhatsApp for a solo operator or a team of two

$39 against $149. Manychat AI is included at Pro per the pricing page (the AI product page still describes a $29 add-on; the review says confirm in writing). Wati Growth at $69 has Co-pilot reply suggestions for agents, not an autonomous agent; Astra starts at Pro with 250 AI Support Agent replies a month. If 250 is not enough, Business at $349 gives 1,000.
Better fit
WATI
Medium confidence

India-first D2C brand, Hindi conversations, Click-to-WhatsApp ads

Wati reports 76% Hindi intent on Astra (the only Hindi figure on this pair), scored CTWA tracking 4.5/5 in its protocol, and its Indian brand searches (15,000 in September) resolve to the vendor. Medium confidence because Manychat's Indian brand volume is larger (51,000), its review reports no Hindi figure, and the Wati figure is a protocol figure, so the language row is one-sided rather than won. AiSensy vs Wati is the India-native pair.

Brazil or Mexico, WhatsApp-led ecommerce

121,000 Brazilian brand searches against 6,200; Portuguese and Spanish admin UI on both, but both PT-BR intent figures (Manychat 82%, Wati 79%) are protocol figures of undetermined class, three points apart. The Wati review itself names Brazil-first operators as a weak fit. Pix and Mercado Pago flow through the store platform on both.

High-volume broadcasting: 10,000+ marketing templates a month to 15,000 contacts

Manychat's contact meter puts 15,000 contacts on Advanced at $199 (25,000 contacts, 10 users). Wati Pro at $149 has unlimited broadcasts and five seats. After Meta's Indian marketing rate ($0.0118) and Wati's ~20 percent markup, Wati lands at about $291 and Manychat at about $317. Medium confidence because the verdict is country-dependent: to Brazilian numbers the markup is $125 and Manychat wins ($824 to $899). The pricing section shows both.

Shopify store with order confirmations, shipping updates and cart recovery on WhatsApp

Wati's Shopify connector is native at a $4.99/mo add-on and its Scenario C reports a three-product browse-to-checkout flow through it at 34 minutes (protocol figure). Manychat reaches Shopify through Zapier or Make. Either way the utility templates cost $0.0014 to Indian numbers and $0.0034 to North American ones on Meta's card; our Shopify integration guide covers the trigger set.

Voice: the AI agent should answer phone calls as well as chats

Astra Voice 2.0 with cloning from a 60-second sample; the review reports about 750 ms median round-trip on short utterances (a protocol figure) and did not test the vendor's "zero latency" wording. Manychat has no voice channel (it transcribes incoming voice notes, scored 4/5). For a wider field see the voice bot buyer's guide.

Agency running many client accounts

Manychat documents an Agency tier with sub-accounts and isolated client billing. Wati's answer to multi-brand is up to 25 additional WhatsApp numbers on Business at $349 plus a per-number add-on, with users, sessions and AI replies shared across the numbers, which is a franchise architecture, not an agency one.

Arabic, Chinese, or an admin UI in more than three languages

Six UI languages verified at Wati's switcher (English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Arabic) against Manychat's three (English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese). Neither offers French, German or Hindi in the admin UI. Our localization guide separates UI language from conversation language, which Astra's 30-plus covers separately.

A team that will grow from three operators to five this year

Manychat: Pro has three users and two inbox seats, Business at $99 has five users and three inbox seats. Wati: Growth's three users cannot be expanded at any price, so the fourth operator means Pro at $149; the sixth is $24 more. The step is $60 on one side and $80 on the other, from a base that is already $30 apart.

Predictable monthly bill with a hard spend ceiling

Manychat lets you cap contact overage and scores 3/5 on price predictability in its review; Meta fees pass through uncapped. Wati's quotas exhaust into manual handling rather than overage charges, scores 2/5, and its per-message line carries the markup with no configurable ceiling. Model the message line first; on both platforms it is the part of the bill that moves.

Live website chat as the primary support surface, or developer-led MCP and BYOLLM

Manychat has no website widget; Wati's web chat widget exists (the review's protocol reports building a bot on it) but is rated lighter on automation depth than live-chat-first platforms. Neither advertises BYOLLM or MCP. Manychat vs Tidio covers the widget question; Botpress vs Voiceflow covers the developer one.

Side-by-side at a glance

Frontmatter-driven. Every figure is carried from the platform's Tier 1 review unless the cell names a fresher source; the pricing methodology uses monthly-billed rates throughout.

Reading note. The two brand-volume rows are shown for both dates because both platforms read lower in September than in May, Manychat by about a quarter on the like-for-like locale sum (482,000 to about 359,000) and Wati by nearly two-fifths (50,000 to about 31,200). We do not know whether that is Ahrefs's volume model, seasonality, or the market, and we do not turn either date into a growth claim. What we can say: Manychat is roughly ten times Wati on the aggregate at both dates; in India the ratio moved from about 2:1 in May (45,000 to 22,000) to 3.4:1 in September (51,000 to 15,000), and in Brazil from about 40:1 (129,000 to 3,200) to 20:1 (121,000 to 6,200). The country ratios moved; the aggregate one did not.

Pricing head-to-head

Both reviews captured vendor pricing in the last week of May 2026 with the monthly toggle active. All figures below are true monthly-billed rates per our pricing methodology, with the annual-contract equivalents beside them. Neither vendor leads with the monthly figure: Manychat's page headlines $14 and $29, Wati's $59 and $99 (or, per one caption in the Wati review, $39 and $79; see the hidden-costs list).

Meta's rate card, the part both reviews got wrong

Meta bills per delivered template and, on the card in force at publish, charges nothing for messages inside the 24-hour window a customer opens; per our template glossary, Meta's 25 August 2026 page announces per-message charging for service messages and in-window utility templates from 1 October 2026, with 1,000 free service messages per number a month, so the scenarios below will be repriced then. The USD card effective 1 July 2026, as read by our channel-mix guide on 21 September 2026: India $0.0118 marketing / $0.0014 utility; Brazil $0.0625 / $0.0068; the North America row $0.0250 / $0.0034, with marketing templates not delivered to US numbers at all per Meta's per-user limits page. Every scenario below is priced on those rows. The Wati review's "$0.025 LATAM average" is roughly double the Indian marketing rate and less than half the Brazilian one; the guide read four rows (North America, Brazil, Germany, India), not the whole card, so we cannot say what a LATAM average would be, which is why every scenario here is priced on a named country row and the review's $90-per-3,000-messages figure appears nowhere on this page. Meta has announced a rate-card update effective 1 October 2026; the scenarios will be repriced when the new card is read. Our WhatsApp pricing tool prices other countries.

Three standardized SMB scenarios (real monthly cost projection)

All three assume WhatsApp opted-in audiences outside the US (where the marketing route does not exist), monthly billing, and Wati's markup applied at 20 percent on the Meta line, shown separately so a buyer who negotiates it away can subtract it. Cost per conversation explains why the platform fee, not the message fee, usually dominates at these volumes.

Solo or two-person WhatsApp shop, ~800 contacts, 1,500 marketing templates a month to Indian numbers, AI answering FAQs

ManychatWinner
Pro $39/mo (AI included per pricing page) + 1,500 × $0.0118 = $17.70 → about $57/mo. If the $29 AI add-on is the live model, about $86.
Wati
Growth $69/mo has no Astra: + 1,500 × $0.0118 × 1.2 = $21.24 → about $90/mo without an AI agent. Pro $149/mo for Astra (250 replies) + $21.24 → about $170/mo.

$57 against $170 with AI on both sides, or $57 against $90 if the Wati buyer accepts Co-pilot suggestions instead of an agent. The Meta line is $18-21 on either side; the gap is the platform tier.

Four-operator support and broadcast team, 4,000 contacts, 3,000 marketing templates a month to Brazilian numbers

ManychatWinner
Pro's 2,500-contact cap leaves 1,500 contacts at $0.05 = $75, so Business $99/mo (7,500 contacts, 5 users, 3 inbox seats) is cheaper. + 3,000 × $0.0625 = $187.50 → about $287/mo; about $387 on Advanced if four inbox seats are required.
Wati
Four operators need Pro $149/mo (5 users). + 3,000 × $0.0625 × 1.2 = $225 → about $374/mo; $337 without the markup. Three operators on Growth $69 + $225 = about $294, no AI agent.

$287 against $374, and the whole gap is two things: Wati's fourth seat forces Pro because Growth cannot be expanded, and the 20 percent markup adds $37.50 on Brazil's $0.0625 rate. Two caveats. Manychat Business includes five users but three inbox seats; if all four operators answer conversations, Manychat needs Advanced at $199 and the row flips to Wati, $374 against $386.50. And with three operators and no AI, Wati Growth at $294 is within $8 of Manychat Business, which is where the markup becomes the decision.

India D2C brand, 15,000 contacts, 10,000 marketing templates a month, five operators, Click-to-WhatsApp ads

Manychat
15,000 contacts exceed Business's 7,500 (overage $187.50), so Advanced $199/mo (25,000 contacts, 10 users). + 10,000 × $0.0118 = $118 → about $317/mo.
WatiWinner
Pro $149/mo (5 users, unlimited broadcasts, 250 AI replies). + 10,000 × $0.0118 × 1.2 = $141.60 → about $291/mo; $267 without the markup. Business $349 only if you need 1,000 AI replies, multiple numbers or the volume discount.

About $291 against $317: the contact meter has pushed Manychat to Advanced while Wati's seat plan is still Pro with unlimited broadcasts, and India's $0.0118 rate keeps the markup to $23.60, under the $50 platform gap. Send the same 10,000 messages to Brazilian numbers and the markup is $125: Manychat $824 against Wati $899, and Manychat is back in front. The rule: Manychat's platform line passes Wati Pro's $149 at about 9,500 contacts (Business plus $0.025 overage), settles at a $50 gap from 11,500 contacts where Advanced becomes cheaper than overage, and the 20 percent markup eats that $50 once the Meta line passes about $250 a month. One quota to check: Wati Pro allows 2,000 automation triggers a month, and a 15,000-contact list fed by ads may exhaust them; quotas exhaust into manual handling, not overage.

Value for Money — two numbers that cannot be compared

Per the VfM methodology, VfM = (functional_score / 100) × (category_lower_bound / platform_price), and the lower bound is the cheapest verified monthly-billed tier in the platform's own category.

ReadingManychatWati
Cheapest paid tier0.59 — (84/100) × ($12/$17), chatbot-builder floor SendPulse Pro at 500 subscribers. Above average.Deferred. The whatsapp-specialist dataset has 4 of the 8 platforms the gate requires (Wati, Interakt, Respond.io, Gallabox); AiSensy and Trengo failed extraction. Wati Growth at $69 ties Interakt Starter as that category's floor.
Functional tier0.84 — (84/100) × ($39/$39); Pro is the floor of the AI + WhatsApp + 2,500-contact band in its category. Excellent.Deferred, same gate.

How to read this. These are different categories with different floors, so even when Wati's figure is published it will answer "how far above the cheapest WhatsApp specialist" while Manychat's answers "how far above the cheapest chatbot-builder", and the two will not be a ratio. What the pricing scenarios above establish without a VfM number: for AI on WhatsApp under 2,500 contacts the first Wati tier costs 3.8 times the first Manychat tier; past about 9,500 contacts, where Manychat Business plus $0.025-per-contact overage passes $149, Wati Pro is cheaper on the platform line, by $50 a month from 11,500 contacts where Manychat moves to Advanced, and stays cheaper until the markup on the Meta line exceeds that $50 (about $250 of Meta fees, or 21,000 Indian marketing templates, or 4,000 Brazilian ones). The matrix's dimension 17 (Manychat 75, Wati 0) inherits the deferral and is worth 2.25 of the 15.28-point spread; we say so there.

How the ranking was constructed

17-dimension scoring rubric (methodology v3.12.1)

Every ranked platform is scored 0–100 against the rubric below — 17 dimensions in 6 weighted clusters. Cluster weights are published; per- dimension weights inside each cluster are documented in the methodology page and the per-review POC notes sibling file. Cluster weights were rebalanced in v3.12.1 (May 2026) to bring Pricing-and-Value closer to AI/NLU parity — reflecting the SMB persona's reality where price is a primary decision driver alongside AI capability.

Why cluster weights, not per-dimension percentages: Cluster-level resolution is the right granularity for SMB buyers — tells you what the score means without inviting vendors to game individual dimension weights. Same practice used by G2 and Forrester.

Scoring isolation: Every Tier 1 review's editorial score is locked before any commercial relationship is evaluated. Affiliate availability never affects scoring. Documented at /methodology#editorial-policy.

Compared to industry frameworks: Same family as Forrester Wave's 25–30 weighted criteria and G2 Grid's Market-Presence/Satisfaction axes. Scoped to SMB chatbot specialists at SMB price points (Gartner Magic Quadrant covers enterprise-tier CX broadly).

All 34 dimension scores are carried unchanged from the two reviews' frontmatter and weighted on the canonical rubric (scoring rubric). Δ = Manychat − Wati. Weighted contribution is Δ × weight ÷ 100, the number that moves the total.

#Dimension (weight)ManychatWatiΔWeightedNotes
1Bot-building experience (5%)8580+5+0.25Manychat: 12-minute Messenger FAQ (protocol figure), ~30-second path to a deployable skeleton verified hands-on on Free; two builder modes. Wati: 18 minutes from signup including WABA provisioning, about 3 minutes of it bot-building per a vendor claim the review accepts; WhatsApp-specific node vocabulary (3-button limit enforced in the canvas). Wati's review puts the maintainability cliff at about 25 nodes; Manychat's reports several hundred nodes before performance degrades and reviewer complaints about large funnels.
2AI / NLU (15%)8273+9+1.35Manychat 89% intent EN on 20 queries and 78% answer accuracy on 15 (protocol figures, provider unpublished). Wati 85% intent EN, 76% citation, 12% hallucination on 20 queries, plus Hindi 76%, plus a voice agent at ~750 ms (protocol figures; the review calls its protocol pre-registered in one section and completed in another). On the shared figures the gap is four points of intent and two of citation; the nine-point score gap also carries Wati's "BYOLLM not advertised" deduction, which would apply equally to Manychat.
3Conversation design (3%)8675+11+0.33Manychat: sub-flows as modules, AI Step at trigger level, Smart Delay and Randomizer (Pro). Wati: fallback reported clean; WhatsApp constraints encoded in node types.
4Channel support (10%)9550+45+4.50Largest row by far, and the one the Wati review says it would rescore on a WhatsApp-only rubric. Seven native automation channels against one plus an inbox. The score measures breadth; it does not see that Wati's one channel is deeper than Manychat's seventh.
5Pricing (12%)8875+13+1.56$39 against $149 for AI on WhatsApp; $17 against $69 at the headline; Wati's markup named as the deduction in its review. The crossover at high broadcast volume is not something a single score can hold.
6Integrations & localization (9%)787800.00A tie that hides two opposite facts: Manychat lists HubSpot, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, Google Sheets and Hotmart as native and reaches Shopify through Zapier; Wati has Zapier, Pabbly and a $4.99 Shopify add-on and reaches HubSpot through Retool. Wati has six UI languages to Manychat's three.
7Analytics (4%)7060+10+0.40Manychat: custom funnel builder, CSV export, real-time (protocol description, no score). Wati: dashboard 3.5/5, CTWA tracking 4.5/5, cohort analysis and deeper funnels on Business only.
8Team & collaboration (3%)8075+5+0.15Same three roles (Admin, Editor, Agent) on both. Manychat 3 users on Pro; Wati 3 hard-capped on Growth, 5 on Pro.
9Compliance & security (5%)7279−7−0.35The one row Wati leads: GDPR documented, BSP certified. Neither advertises HIPAA or a BAA.
10Support & documentation (4%)8060+20+0.80Runs the other way from the sub-ratings: Capterra Customer Service is Manychat 4.0 (72 reviews), Wati 4.2 (203); TrustPilot Manychat 2.5, Wati 3.5. Manychat's review credits Academy and community; support response was not tested on either side. Carried as published.
11Performance & reliability (6%)8875+13+0.78Manychat's review documents a silent Telegram webhook death on idle bots, found hands-on, with no vendor warning surfaced. Wati's reviewers report chat-history lag past 30-50 agents. Neither review explains how 88 sits above 75 given the first finding.
12Developer experience (5%)6560+5+0.25Both have documented APIs; neither is a developer platform; neither advertises MCP or BYOLLM. Wati's Business tier lists 20M API calls a month.
13Ecosystem & extensibility (4%)8560+25+1.0060+ vendor-confirmed templates and a comment-to-DM workflow library on the Manychat side against a WhatsApp-specific template gallery on Wati's. Community size follows brand volume, ten to one.
14Practical UX (4%)9080+10+0.40Capterra Ease of Use: Manychat 4.4, Wati 4.6. The scores run the other way from that sub-rating too; Manychat's review credits auto-save, dual builders and trigger-level AI.
15Trust signals (5%)9570+25+1.25Manychat: 508 reviews, TrustPilot 2.5 on 273 concentrated on billing. Wati: 925 reviews, TrustPilot 3.5 on 240. The larger pool and the higher TrustPilot score belong to the platform scored 25 points lower here; the 95 rests on brand volume and vendor stability as much as on reviews.
16Partnership status (3%)9583+12+0.36Both Meta BSPs. Manychat: $158M+ and a Meta directory listing. Wati: $35M+ with Shopify as an investor and Premium Partner badges from Meta and Google.
17Value for Money (3%)750+75+2.25Deferral artifact. Wati's VfM is pending its category dataset; the review scores the row at zero and says so. Removing the row narrows the recomputed gap from 15.28 to 13.43.

Weighted sums: Manychat 83.59, Wati 68.31. Spread 15.28, against a headline spread of 16. Manychat leads fifteen dimensions, Wati one, one tied.

Three readings of the same seventeen numbers:

  1. All dimensions as published: Manychat 83.59, Wati 68.31 (+15.28).
  2. Excluding Value for Money (deferred to zero), renormalized to 97%: Manychat 83.86, Wati 70.42 (+13.43).
  3. Excluding channel support and Value for Money, renormalized to 87%: Manychat 82.57, Wati 72.77 (+9.80).

The Wati review's "comfortably 84+" on a WhatsApp-only rubric is not something these seventeen numbers can produce. Removing the row that penalizes single-channel platforms lifts Wati to the low 70s, not the mid 80s; the rest of the gap sits in AI/NLU, pricing, ecosystem, trust signals and support, three of which run against the third-party sub-ratings in the notes column. Our reading: the rubric ranks Manychat above Wati as a general SMB chatbot platform, which is true, and says nothing about which is the better WhatsApp platform, which is the question most people arrive here asking. The use-case table answers that one row at a time.

Six-scenario delta — read the evidence line first

Per the six-scenario protocol. Neither column is a measurement on its review's own account, and this page scores neither.

Manychat (24-25 May 2026): the review's How-we-tested section reports "9 hours of active testing plus 2 hours of documentation". Its hands-on walkthrough, added 27 May, says the six-scenario protocol is "methodology-anchored simulation" and that the walkthrough's observations, unlike the protocol's, are first-hand; the 25 May changelog entry calls it a "simulated 6-scenario testing protocol". The walkthrough itself was about 45 minutes on a live Free plan with a Telegram bot, and lists WhatsApp OAuth, BSP setup and every paid tier as not exercised in that session; the AI features section separately says the knowledge-base test ran "on a Pro-tier account", a claim the review does not reconcile with either label. We take the review at its own word in the two places it is most careful about evidence class: the scenario figures below are protocol figures, and the 26-hour approval is not something anyone watched.

Wati (24-25 May 2026): How-we-tested reports "nine hours of active testing, plus two hours of documentation" on an authenticated Pro-tier workspace with the Shopify add-on activated, eleven authenticated screenshots plus two public-page captures, and a walkthrough that ties each figure to the surface it was produced on. The features section of the same review says the six-scenario protocol "is pre-registered for this platform" and refers the reader to a "planned methodology" at an anchor that does not exist. No Rule 15 Evidence Box, one further label conflict (Scenario A "on a Growth-tier account" against a Pro-tier test environment), and a 28-hour approval figure that our template audit found above Meta's stated 24-hour window. Same rule, same label: protocol figures of undetermined class, more specifically described than Manychat's, not better classed.

The review accepts the vendor's claim of about 3 minutes for the bot-build step alone. Not a differentiator.
B — Lead capture to Google Sheets8 min; 100% fidelity11 min via Zapier; 100% fidelity on 50 submissionsTie. Both route through middleware (Manychat has a native Sheets tile; Wati uses Zapier).

No cumulative friction score is published for this pair. Manychat's review scores one scenario (E); Wati's scores five and describes one; our X/30 aggregate needs six at one settled evidence level per platform, and neither side has one.

Why both columns are labeled the way they are~2 min

We want to be exact. This page is not saying the Manychat review's numbers are wrong, and it is not saying nobody sat in the product; the 27 May walkthrough is unusually specific, down to the timestamped file IDs in the builder URLs and a webhook failure the reviewer recovered from with a fresh BotFather token. It is saying the review describes its six-scenario protocol as simulation in the two places where it is being most careful about evidence class (the walkthrough's opening paragraph and the changelog), and as active testing in the place where it is reporting results. Where a review disagrees with itself about what kind of number it has, we take the more conservative label. That matters most for Scenario C: the review lists WhatsApp OAuth and BSP setup among items not exercised, so a 26-hour template approval on that platform is a figure the protocol produced, not one a submission produced.

The Wati review has the same problem in a different shape. Its features section says the six-scenario protocol "is pre-registered for this platform" and points to a "planned methodology"; its How-we-tested section reports the protocol as run on 24-25 May with figures, and its walkthrough says which surface each number came from, on which account tier, with a screenshot. Where a review says a test is planned in one section and reports its results in another, the conservative label is the same one we gave Manychat. The walkthrough's specificity is real and it is why the Wati figures are easier to audit; it does not change their class. That is why the pending-gates list on this page keeps HANDS_ON_TESTING_MEASURED open on both sides, why neither column is scored, and why the 28-hour figure carries the same label our template audit gives every approval time on this site.

Who should pick which — side-by-side strengths and weaknesses

Tick three or more on one side and that is your platform. A single hard gap in a "Con" on your side sends you to the other.

Strengths

  • AI on WhatsApp at $39
Pro includes WhatsApp, 2,500 contacts, three users and Manychat AI (confirm the bundle in writing; the AI product page still describes a $29 add-on). Wati's first AI tier is $149. For a small list this is the whole decision.
  • Seven channels from one flow
Instagram comment-to-DM, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, Email and TikTok DM, with the same builder and the same contact record. The Instagram guide covers the workflow reviewers name first; the Telegram guide the one Wati does not have.
  • A Free plan and a 14-day trial
Free is 25 contacts on two non-WhatsApp channels, which is enough to learn the builder; Wati has no free tier and a 7-day trial. The AI Step is available on Free, which the Manychat review calls unusual; Tidio's Free plan carries 50 Lyro conversations and SendPulse's walkthrough found an AI Agent block on Free, so it is not unique. Compared across the catalog in free chatbot plans compared.
  • Brazil and LATAM by a wide margin
121,000 Brazilian brand searches in September against Wati's 6,200; 215,000 across LATAM in the May review. Hotmart is a native integration. The Wati review names Brazil-first operators as a weak fit in its own words.
  • Agency architecture
A documented Agency tier with sub-accounts and isolated client billing. Wati's multi-number Business plan shares users, sessions and AI replies across up to 25 numbers, which is built for franchises, not agencies.
  • Cheaper seat growth
The fourth operator costs a $60 step to Business (five users, three inbox seats, 7,500 contacts). On Wati it is an $80 step to Pro because Growth's three seats cannot be expanded.
  • Configurable overage cap
You can decide whether contact overage is allowed at all and how many extra contacts you will pay for. Wati's per-message line has no equivalent ceiling.

Weaknesses

  • WhatsApp is one tab of seven
The template manager, campaign dashboard and Click-to-WhatsApp tracking that make up Wati's product are generic surfaces on Manychat. The review's own weak-fit list says WhatsApp-only operators with sophisticated needs should look at Wati or AiSensy.
  • The contact meter
Every person who messages in a month counts toward 2,500 / 7,500 / 25,000. A growing broadcast list is a growing bill: Manychat's platform line passes Wati Pro's flat $149 at about 9,500 contacts and sits $50 above it from 11,500 on Advanced, before Meta's fees.
  • No voice, no Hindi figure, three UI languages
No voice channel; incoming voice notes are transcribed. The review reports figures for English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese only. The admin UI has no Arabic, Chinese or Hindi.
  • The WhatsApp figures are protocol figures
The review calls its six-scenario protocol simulation and lists WhatsApp OAuth and BSP setup as not exercised (Wati's review has its own version of this problem; see the evidence section). Its 26-hour approval is not an observation. Its Meta fee line quotes a pricing model that ended in July 2025.
  • TrustPilot 2.5 on 273
Billing and cancellation complaints, durable over six months per the review, on the platform with the higher trust-signals score. Capterra Customer Service is 4.0, lowest of its sub-ratings.
  • No website widget, no MCP, no BYOLLM
Pair it with Tidio for on-site chat; look at Botpress vs Voiceflow for the developer stack.

Strengths

  • The WhatsApp product, end to end
Template composer built around Meta's header-body-footer-button structure, approval-status list, campaign overview with delivery, read and reply rates, Click-to-WhatsApp ads tracking scored 4.5/5. Our channel guide rates the template manager the most extensive native authoring surface in the shortlist.
  • Seats and quotas, not contacts
No contact cap is recorded. A 15,000-contact list broadcasting 10,000 templates a month sits on Pro at $149; the same list on Manychat is Advanced at $199. Chatbot broadcast explains what the quota counts.
  • Astra: voice, 30-plus languages, a Hindi number
An AI agent that answers WhatsApp, web and phone calls with a cloned voice, reported at about 750 ms round-trip; 85% English and 76% Hindi intent on the review's 20-query set. Manychat has no voice channel and no Hindi figure.
  • Six UI languages including Arabic and Chinese
Verified at the marketing-site switcher. The languages track Wati's markets: India, the Gulf, Southeast Asia, LATAM. Manychat's three do not include any of the first three regions.
  • Native Shopify and up to 25 numbers
A $4.99 Shopify add-on used in the review's commerce scenario; Business supports 25 additional WhatsApp numbers for multi-region or multi-brand operations. Manychat reaches Shopify through Zapier and records no multi-number feature.
  • The more specifically described WhatsApp test
Pro-tier authenticated session, eleven authenticated screenshots plus two public-page captures, each figure tied to the surface it came from. Not an Evidence Box, and the same review calls the protocol pre-registered in one section and completed in another, so the figures are not a higher class than Manychat's; they are easier to audit.
  • Compliance row and the larger review pool
The one dimension Wati leads (79 to 72): GDPR documented, BSP certified. 925 reviews across three aggregators against 508, with a TrustPilot a full point higher.

Weaknesses

  • $149 for an AI agent, then 250 replies
Growth's Co-pilot credits suggest replies to humans; the autonomous agent starts at Pro and stops after 250 conversations a month. 1,000 replies is Business at $349.
  • Growth's three seats cannot be expanded
No per-user add-on. Team of four means Pro. The review calls the 4-10 operator range the uncomfortable one.
  • ~20 percent on Meta's rates, and no cap
Documented by third parties, not audited on an invoice. To Brazilian numbers it is $12.50 per 1,000 marketing templates and it is the line that flips the third pricing scenario back to Manychat. Volume discounts are Business-only.
  • The other channels are an inbox
Messenger, Instagram, web chat and SMS conversations arrive in the same list; automation depth stays on WhatsApp. Channel support scores 50 for that reason. Omnichannel chatbot defines the difference.
  • No free tier; HubSpot through Retool; no Telegram or email
Seven days to decide. HubSpot is "possible using Retool" per the help center, whatever third-party blogs say. Telegram, TikTok and email are not channels.
  • Two annual price sets in its own review
    $59 / $99 / $279 in the table, $39 / $79 / $199 in a caption, same page, same date. Check the USD render yourself.

How to actually decide — three questions, in order

1. Is WhatsApp the business, or a channel? If Instagram, Messenger or Telegram carry real conversation volume, or will within a year, Manychat, and the rest of this list is confirmation. If the WhatsApp number is the storefront, the support desk and the ad landing page, Wati, and the next two questions decide the tier. Our choosing channels guide is the reading if the answer is "not sure yet".

2. How many contacts, and how many business-first messages a month? Under 2,500 contacts with AI: Manychat Pro at $39 against Wati Pro at $149, and no feature on the Wati side is worth $110 a month to a two-person shop. 2,500 to about 9,500: Manychat Pro with $0.05 overage up to about 3,700 contacts, then Business at $99 with $0.025 overage, against Wati Pro at $149, a gap that closes as the list grows, and Wati's template tooling starts to earn the difference for a broadcaster. Past about 9,500 contacts: Wati Pro is cheaper on the platform line, by $50 once Manychat is on Advanced at 11,500 or more, and stays cheaper until the markup on the Meta line passes $50, which is about 21,000 marketing templates to Indian numbers or 4,000 to Brazilian ones. Price the Meta line first with the WhatsApp pricing tool; it is the number that moves.

3. Does the agent need to talk, or speak Hindi, or run in Arabic? Voice on the number, a Hindi intent figure, Arabic or Chinese admin UI: Wati, and this question can override the second one. None of the three: the second question stands.

The overlap zone is a WhatsApp-first SMB with a small list and a three-person team, where Manychat Pro at $39 does the job for $30 less than Wati Growth and includes an AI agent Growth does not have, but with a generic template surface. Run both trials in the same two weeks (14 days on Manychat, 7 on Wati), submit the same three templates on each, and time the approvals yourself; both reviews' figures are a single day's number at best.

Alternatives if neither fits

  1. AiSensy — the India-native WhatsApp specialist with INR billing and a Meta CTWA Partner of the Year badge. For an Indian D2C buyer choosing Wati, this is the second trial to run; AiSensy vs Wati is the direct pair.

  2. SendPulse — the $12 category floor with WhatsApp and AI in base tiers, subscriber-metered, and an email suite attached. For a multi-channel buyer who found Manychat's contact meter steep, Manychat vs SendPulse is the comparison.

  3. BotPenguin — a WhatsApp-capable builder with a vendor-claimed zero markup on Meta's rates and a $29 entry; BotPenguin vs Wati works the markup question in detail, and BotPenguin vs Manychat the multi-channel one.

  4. Chatfuel — one flat plan at $69 with unlimited contacts, for the Meta-channel buyer whose list will outgrow Manychat's tiers; Chatfuel vs Manychat.

  5. Tidio — when the missing piece on either side is a website widget with a human inbox behind it; the "run both" pattern in Manychat vs Tidio applies to Wati just as well.

User feedback patterns

Cross-aggregator scan as recorded in the two reviews (Manychat 25 May 2026; Wati 26 May with G2 and TrustPilot re-scanned 31 May 2026), paraphrased dominant signal per hygiene Rule 7.

Manychat
3.44 avg · 508 reviews
Pattern reconciliation — the same shape on both, a point apart on TrustPilot~2 min

Manychat (508 reviews). G2 and Capterra praise setup speed, the Instagram comment-to-DM trigger, the template library and the social-to-web bridge. Capterra's sub-ratings put Ease of Use at 4.4, Value for Money 4.2 and Customer Service 4.0, the lowest. TrustPilot at 2.5 on 273 is the outlier, and the review is specific about why: continued charges after cancellation attempts, refund friction and support that is slow or unreachable when something breaks. Two product complaints recur alongside: Meta profile disconnects that fail silently, and flows that get hard to maintain once they have many branches.

Wati (925 reviews). G2 and Capterra praise the same things in WhatsApp terms: a bot live in minutes, broadcast scheduling and segmentation, a shared inbox that a team of three to five actually uses, and the Shopify and Zapier paths being "good enough". Capterra Ease of Use is 4.6 and Customer Service 4.2, again the lowest. TrustPilot at 3.5 on 240 carries two of Manychat's complaint clusters, cancellation friction and support responsiveness at scale, plus one of its own, pricing opacity, with the per-message markup as the specific complaint. Chat-history lag and thin funnel analytics past 30-50 agents are the product complaints.

Reconciliation. The two footprints have the same shape: product-focused aggregators near 4.6, the customer-service aggregator well below, Customer Service the weakest Capterra dimension on both. The differences are size and degree. Wati has 1.8 times the reviews and a TrustPilot a full point higher, and our rubric scores it 25 points lower on trust signals and 20 lower on support; those two scores rest on brand volume, funding and documentation rather than on the review pools, and the matrix says so. Read either platform's TrustPilot before signing an annual contract, and ask both vendors the cancellation question in writing during the trial.

FAQ

Is Manychat better than Wati?

As a general SMB chatbot platform, yes, and the rubric's sixteen-point gap (84 to 68) reflects that: seven channels against one, a $39 AI tier against $149, a larger ecosystem. As a WhatsApp platform, the rubric does not answer the question. 4.5 of the recomputed 15.28-point spread is the channel-breadth row and 2.25 is a Value for Money row scored zero by deferral; remove both and Manychat still leads by about ten points, on dimensions that include three the third-party sub-ratings contradict. Wati's template manager, broadcast tooling, Click-to-WhatsApp tracking, voice agent and six-language UI are things the rubric has no row for. If WhatsApp is the whole business, read the use-case table rather than the score.

Which is cheaper, Manychat or Wati?

For AI on WhatsApp with under 2,500 contacts, Manychat by 3.8x: Pro at $39 against Wati Pro at $149 monthly-billed (2.2x if Manychat's AI is the $29 add-on its product page still describes). For a WhatsApp inbox without an AI agent, Manychat Pro at $39 against Wati Growth at $69. Past about 9,500 contacts Manychat's platform line (Business plus overage, then Advanced at $199 from 11,500) passes Wati Pro's flat $149, so Wati is up to $50 cheaper on the platform line; its ~20 percent markup on Meta's per-message rates erodes that at about $250 of monthly Meta fees. The three scenarios above put numbers on each band using Meta's 1 July 2026 card.

Does Wati have a free plan?

No. Wati offers a 7-day trial of any plan with no card, then Growth at $69 a month monthly-billed. Manychat has a permanent Free plan (25 contacts, two channels, no WhatsApp) and a 14-day trial of Essential and Pro. For WhatsApp specifically, neither platform has a free path; Manychat's cheapest is $39 and Wati's $69.

Which one for a Shopify store?

For order confirmations, shipping updates and cart recovery on WhatsApp: Wati, with its native $4.99 add-on and a commerce flow its Scenario C reports at 34 minutes (protocol figure), noting that checkout hands off to a Shopify deep link. For a store whose customers arrive from Instagram and Messenger as well: Manychat, through Zapier or Make. Utility templates for the order flow cost $0.0014 to Indian numbers and $0.0034 on the North America row on Meta's card, on either platform. See best chatbots for Shopify.

Which one for India?

Wati is the specialist and has the only Hindi intent figure on this pair (76%), CTWA tracking scored 4.5/5, and a marketing template rate of $0.0118 that keeps its markup small. Manychat has more than three times Wati's Indian brand searches (51,000 to 15,000 in September 2026) and is $110 a month cheaper for an AI agent on a small list. An India-first D2C brand broadcasting at volume: Wati, and compare it to AiSensy. An Indian SMB with Instagram as the front door: Manychat.

Which one for Brazil?

Manychat: 121,000 Brazilian brand searches against 6,200, a native Hotmart integration, and the Wati review naming Brazil-first operators as a weak fit. Brazil's marketing template rate is $0.0625, five times India's, so Wati's 20 percent markup is $12.50 per thousand there, which is the line that hands the high-volume scenario back to Manychat.

Do Manychat or Wati support voice?

Wati does, through Astra Voice 2.0: an AI agent on phone calls with a cloned voice from a 60-second sample, reported at about 750 ms median round-trip on short utterances in the review, a protocol figure. Manychat has no voice channel; it transcribes incoming WhatsApp voice notes. Background: voice bot.

How fast is WhatsApp template approval on each?

The reviews say 26 hours (Manychat) and 28 hours (Wati). Neither is a clean measurement: the Manychat review calls its protocol simulation and lists WhatsApp setup as not exercised, the Wati review calls its protocol pre-registered in one section and completed in another, and both figures sit above the "up to 24 hours" Meta publishes for template review with no partner lane in it. Treat approval as a day, more if the template has a dangling parameter or promotional wording in a utility submission; the approval predictor checks the common rejection causes before you submit.

Do Manychat or Wati mark up Meta's WhatsApp fees?

Wati's review records a ~20 percent markup on Meta's per-template rates, documented across five independent BSP comparisons and not audited against an invoice; volume discounts are Business-tier only. Manychat's review says fees pass through and states no markup figure. Meta's own rates (1 July 2026 USD card) are $0.0118 marketing to India, $0.0625 to Brazil, $0.0250 on the North America row, and marketing templates are not delivered to US numbers. Ask both vendors for the per-message rate sheet for your top three countries before signing.

Can I use my own OpenAI or Anthropic key, or MCP, with either?

Neither advertises BYOLLM or MCP as of the two reviews (May 2026). Both AI layers are vendor-managed with the provider unpublished. For a stack that needs either, see Botpress vs Voiceflow.

Can I switch from one to the other?

Both reviews record CSV export for analytics; check contact export in each trial. Flows do not transfer, and Wati's template library is WhatsApp-native while Manychat's templates span channels. Under Meta's model the WhatsApp number belongs to the Business Account rather than the platform, so ask the new vendor what survives the BSP change before you start; neither review covers migration. Budget two weeks; our 14-day vendor migration playbook has the sequence.

Does Chatbotscape earn commission on Manychat and Wati sign-ups?

Yes, on paid sign-ups through /go/manychat and /go/wati, disclosed inline in both reviews. Commission does not touch scoring, which is computed from the published rubric before any partnership is considered. On this page that policy produced a matrix note that three Manychat-favorable dimensions run against the third-party sub-ratings, a pricing section that reprices both reviews' Meta figures because both were wrong, an evidence section that declines to call either platform's WhatsApp figures measurements, and a third scenario the lower-scoring platform wins in one market and loses in another. Full policy: affiliate disclosure.

Shopify add-on $4.99/mo. No free tier; 7-day trial of any plan, no card. The review's walkthrough caption records annual rates of $39/$79/$199 for the same page; the table figures are used here and the discrepancy is flagged upstream. META RATE CARD: USD rates effective 1 July 2026 as read by academy/chatbot-channel-mix-guide on 21 September 2026 (Marketing / Utility / Authentication per delivered template): India 0.0118 / 0.0014 / 0.0014; Brazil 0.0625 / 0.0068 / 0.0068; North America 0.0250 / 0.0034 / 0.0034; Germany 0.1365 / 0.0550 / 0.0550. Non-template messages inside the 24-hour customer service window are free on the 1 July card; Meta's 25 August 2026 page (per glossary/whatsapp-message-template) announces per-message charging for service and in-window utility messages from 1 October 2026 with 1,000 free service messages per number a month. Meta's per-user marketing limits page (updated 17 June 2026) states marketing templates are not currently delivered to US phone numbers. Wati's ~20% markup applied on the Meta line in every scenario and shown separately; Manychat's review records pass-through with no markup figure. SCENARIOS: (1) 800 contacts, 1,500 IN marketing templates, AI: Manychat Pro $39 + $17.70 = $56.70; Wati Growth $69 + $21.24 = $90.24 without an agent, Pro $149 + $21.24 = $170.24 with Astra. (2) 4,000 contacts, 4 operators, 3,000 BR marketing templates: Manychat Business $99 + $187.50 = $286.50 (Pro would be $39 + $75 overage + $187.50 = $301.50); Wati Pro $149 + $225 = $374 ($337 without markup); with 3 operators Wati Growth $69 + $225 = $294. (3) 15,000 contacts, 5 operators, 10,000 IN marketing templates: Manychat Advanced $199 + $118 = $317 (Business would be $99 + $187.50 overage + $118 = $404.50); Wati Pro $149 + $141.60 = $290.60 ($267 without markup). Same 10,000 templates to Brazilian numbers: Manychat $199 + $625 = $824; Wati $149 + $750 = $899. Crossover rule: Manychat's platform line is Pro $39 + $0.05/contact above 2,500 (Business cheaper from ~3,700), Business $99 + $0.025/contact above 7,500 (Advanced cheaper from 11,500), Advanced $199 to 25,000; it passes Wati Pro's flat $149 at ~9,500 contacts and sits $50 above from 11,500. Wati Pro is cheaper all-in while (Manychat platform − $149) exceeds 20% of the Meta line, i.e. at the $50 gap until about $250 of Meta fees (21,186 IN marketing templates or 4,000 BR ones). Wati Pro's 2,000 automation-trigger quota is a separate constraint at this list size.
Policy data
Aggregator figures as recorded in the two reviews. Manychat, 25 May 2026: G2 4.5/5 from 163; Capterra 4.6/5 from 72 (Ease of Use 4.4, Value for Money 4.2, Customer Service 4.0, 93% positive sentiment); TrustPilot 2.5/5 from 273 (the review's Evidence Box notes this is down from a 4.5 baseline, confirmed by direct site check). Wati, 26 May 2026 with G2 and TrustPilot re-scanned 31 May: G2 4.6/5 from 482; Capterra 4.6/5 from 203 (Ease of Use 4.6, Customer Service 4.2); TrustPilot 3.5/5 from 240. Totals 508 against 925. Both footprints share the same shape (product aggregators near 4.6, customer-service aggregator well below, Customer Service the weakest Capterra dimension) and two shared TrustPilot complaint clusters (cancellation friction, support responsiveness), with pricing opacity named on Wati's side. Themes paraphrased and aggregated, never selectively quoted. Vendor badges: both are Meta BSPs (Manychat listed in Meta's Business Partner Directory; Wati's footer additionally claims Premium Partner of Meta and Google, vendor copy); Manychat's 1,000,000+ businesses and Wati's 16,000+ customers are vendor-stated and not audited; Wati's 'zero-latency' voice framing is vendor language, with ~750 ms the review's own protocol figure; Wati's ~20% markup is documented by five third-party BSP comparisons and not audited against an invoice; Manychat's review states no markup figure either way. SIBLING DRIFT RECORDED: compare/manychat-vs-tidio presents the Manychat scenario figures as 'measured' and publishes a 5/30 friction aggregate absent from the review, and carries TrustPilot 272 against the review's 273; alternatives/manychat-alternatives lists Wati at 78 against the review's 68; compare/botpenguin-vs-wati carries the Wati review's $90-per-3,000-messages figure computed on a rate not on Meta's card. Affiliate: both reviews disclose commission on paid sign-ups via /go/manychat and /go/wati; both slugs exist in the redirect map.
Scoring data
All 34 dimension scores carried unchanged from the two reviews' frontmatter and weighted on the canonical 17-dimension rubric (bot_building 5, ai_nlu 15, conversation_design 3, channels 10, integrations 9, analytics 4, team_collab 3, compliance 5, pricing 12, support_docs 4, performance 6, developer_exp 5, ecosystem 4, practical_ux 4, trust_signals 5, partnership 3, value_for_money 3). Manychat: 85, 82, 86, 95, 78, 70, 80, 72, 88, 80, 88, 65, 85, 90, 95, 95, 75 = 83.59 (review states 83.6, headline 84 within tolerance). Wati: 80, 73, 75, 50, 78, 60, 75, 79, 75, 60, 75, 60, 60, 80, 70, 83, 0 = 68.31 (review states 68.3; VfM scored 0 by deferral). Spread 15.28 against a headline spread of 16. Weighted contributions, Manychat-favorable: channels +4.50, value for money +2.25, pricing +1.56, AI/NLU +1.35, trust signals +1.25, ecosystem +1.00, support +0.80, performance +0.78, analytics +0.40, practical UX +0.40, partnership +0.36, conversation design +0.33, bot building +0.25, developer experience +0.25, team +0.15 (sum +15.63). Wati-favorable: compliance −0.35. Integrations tied (0). Manychat leads 15 dimensions, Wati 1, 1 tied. THREE READINGS: all dimensions Manychat 83.59 / Wati 68.31 (+15.28); excluding VfM renormalized to 97% Manychat 83.86 / Wati 70.42 (+13.44); excluding channels and VfM renormalized to 87% Manychat 82.57 / Wati 72.77 (+9.80). The Wati review's statement that it would score 'comfortably 84+' on a WhatsApp-only rubric is not reproducible by any removal from these seventeen numbers and is stated as such. VALUE FOR MONEY: NOT COMPARABLE — different categories, different floors. Manychat 0.59 at Essential = (84/100)×(12/17) and 0.84 at Pro = (84/100)×(39/39) on the chatbot-builder floor ($12 SendPulse, 9 of 9 verified). Wati deferred: whatsapp-specialist dataset 4 of 8 (Wati, Interakt, Respond.io, Gallabox), floor $69 (Wati Growth tied with Interakt Starter). Dimension 17 (Manychat 75, Wati 0) is a deferral artifact worth 2.25 points. AI/NLU: Wati's prose says 72 and its frontmatter 73; 73 used. Three Manychat-favorable dimensions run against the third-party sub-ratings and are shown beside them: support & documentation (80 vs 60; Capterra CS 4.0 vs 4.2; TrustPilot 2.5 vs 3.5), practical UX (90 vs 80; Capterra EoU 4.4 vs 4.6), trust signals (95 vs 70; 508 reviews vs 925). No arithmetic error was found in either review's weighted sum.
Testing observations
NEITHER SCENARIO COLUMN IS A MEASUREMENT ON ITS REVIEW'S OWN ACCOUNT; BOTH ARE LABELED PROTOCOL FIGURES OF UNDETERMINED CLASS AND NEITHER IS SCORED. Manychat, 24-25 May 2026 per manychat-review.md: How-we-tested reports '9 hours of active testing plus 2 hours of documentation'; the 27 May hands-on walkthrough states 'Unlike the standardized 6-scenario protocol below (which is methodology-anchored simulation), the observations here are first-hand'; the 25 May changelog entry reads 'simulated 6-scenario testing protocol'. Figures: A 12 min Messenger FAQ, 89% intent EN / 84% ES-LATAM / 82% PT-BR on a 20-query set; B 8 min Google Sheets, 100% fidelity; C 22 min WhatsApp commerce, template approval 26h; D 78% answer accuracy on 15 questions against 5 PDFs, 78% citation, 12% hallucination; E 4/5 on an Instagram DM trigger; F dashboards 'solid', custom funnel builder, CSV export, real-time, no score. Hands-on (Rule 15 Evidence Box, aggregate High): 27 May 2026, live Free plan 'testbot' (0/25 contacts, Telegram connected), ~45 minutes across Flow Builder, Channels and Inbox; verified-handson rows: pricing_page, free_plan, bot_builder, primary_channel_setup, user_reviews, vendor_docs, cross_vendor_pricing; support_response not-verified. Every Manychat scenario figure on this page is labeled a protocol figure and none is presented as measured. Wati, 24-25 May 2026 per wati-review.md How-we-tested: 'nine hours of active testing, plus two hours of documentation', authenticated Pro-tier workspace, Shopify add-on activated, eleven authenticated screenshots plus two public-page captures; the features section of the same review says 'Hands-on testing under our standard 6-scenario protocol is pre-registered for this platform (see How we evaluated Wati for the planned methodology) and will refresh the scoring on completion', with the anchor unresolved; no Rule 15 Evidence Box; HANDS_ON_TESTING_VERIFIED listed as passed. Figures: A 18 min from signup including Meta Business Manager linking and BSP number provisioning (bot-build step about 3 min per a vendor claim the review accepts), 84% intent EN, 13% fallback, 3% incorrect, friction 4/5 (described as on a Growth-tier account while the test environment names a Pro-tier account); B 11 min Zapier-to-Sheets, 100% fidelity on 50 submissions, 4/5; C 34 min Shopify commerce flow, template approval 28h, 3.5/5, checkout hands off to a Shopify deep link; D Astra on 5 PDFs (~80 pages), 20-query set: EN 85% intent / 76% citation / 12% hallucination, ES-LATAM 81/72/14, PT-BR 79/70/15, Hindi 76/68/17; Astra Voice ~750 ms median round-trip; E 4/5, full history, Astra reasoning trace at the trigger, internal notes persisted, Admin/Editor/Agent roles enforced on a 5-user account; F dashboard 3.5/5, CTWA tracking 4.5/5, cohort analysis Business-only, CSV export. Every Wati figure is labeled a protocol figure of undetermined class, the same label as Manychat's; the Wati figures are more specifically described (surface, tier, screenshot), which is a difference of description, not class. NO CUMULATIVE FRICTION SCORE is published for either platform; Manychat's review scores one scenario, Wati's five.
Brand search volume
Ahrefs, 21 September 2026, pulled for this page (883 units across four calls). 'manychat': 85,000/mo US, 535,000 global, KD 14, CPC $0.35, own parent topic; by country Brazil 121,000, US 85,000, India 51,000, Mexico 27,000, Colombia 21,000, Spain 18,000, Argentina 15,000, UK 13,000, Philippines 8,900, Germany 8,100, Taiwan 7,100, Australia 6,500, Israel 6,200, Chile 5,900, Netherlands 5,700; nine of our ten standard locales sum to about 359,000 (France below 5,700, not enumerated). 'wati': 2,100/mo US, 59,000 global, KD 12, CPC $3.00; by country India 15,000, Brazil 6,200, Mexico 2,300, US 2,100, Colombia 2,000, Indonesia 2,000, Argentina 1,500, Pakistan 1,500, Malaysia 1,400, Hong Kong 1,300, Saudi Arabia 1,200, Egypt 1,100, UK 1,100, Spain 1,000, Peru 900; eight of our ten standard locales sum to about 31,200 (Germany and France below 900). In the Indian index 'wati' carries the parent topic 'wati whatsapp' (3,000/mo IN) and 'wati login' adds 3,500/mo, so the query is read as the vendor despite 'wati' also being a personal-name element in South and Southeast Asia. Pair queries: 'wati vs manychat' 10/mo US, 150 global; 'manychat vs wati' no indexed row; 'chatbase vs manychat' and 'manychat vs chatbase' 0 both directions. REVIEW FIGURES (May 2026 refresh) carried in the matrix: Manychat 482,000 aggregate / 70,000 US / 129,000 BR / 215,000 LATAM / 45,000 IN, TOP_TIER; Wati 50,000 aggregate / 4,800 US / 22,000 IN / 3,200 BR / 5,400 LATAM, STRONG. Both read lower in September on the like-for-like locale sums (Manychat by about a quarter, Wati by nearly two-fifths); no growth or decline claim is made. Ratios: roughly 10:1 on the aggregate at both dates; India about 2:1 in May and 3.4:1 in September; Brazil about 40:1 in May and 20:1 in September. SIBLING CORRECTION: compare/manychat-vs-tidio, compare/manychat-vs-sendpulse and compare/chatfuel-vs-manychat each said Manychat's 45,000 Indian searches sit 'behind Wati'; Wati's own review records 22,000. Corrected at publish with a dated note.
Affiliate disclosure
Chatbotscape earns commission on paid sign-ups through /go/manychat and /go/wati, disclosed inline in both source reviews. Commission does not influence scoring, which is computed from the published 17-dimension rubric before any partnership is considered. What this page does with that: it shows that 6.75 of the 15.28-point recomputed spread sits in a channel-breadth row that penalizes single-channel platforms and a Value for Money row scored zero by deferral, and that three further Manychat-favorable rows run against the third-party sub-ratings; it reprices every Meta fee in both reviews on the 1 July 2026 card because both reviews had it wrong; it declines to present either platform's WhatsApp scenario figures as measurements because each review contradicts itself about whether the protocol was run; and it publishes a high-volume scenario the lower-scoring platform wins, with the exact volume and country at which it stops winning.
